DougAF Posted July 25, 2023 Posted July 25, 2023 “Only 12.5 million” This is why there’s currently a strike going on. Writers, supporting actors, and people doing the heavy lifting of behind the scenes getting paid dust while Margot makes 150 times their salary. 1 1
Superbitch Posted July 25, 2023 Posted July 25, 2023 (edited) Only?? Stars shouldn’t be paid that much money when lesser known Get ****. There’s a reason there’s a strike. Also she’s a producer she’s gonna get much more. Edited July 25, 2023 by Superbitch
fountain Posted July 25, 2023 Posted July 25, 2023 You could very easily retire and never have to lift a finger for the rest of your life with that kind of money.
GraceRandolph Posted July 25, 2023 Posted July 25, 2023 So… she’s one of the highest paid actresses in Hollywood?

Writers, supporting actors, and people doing the heavy lifting of behind the scenes getting paid dust while Margot makes 150 times their salary. This actually isn't their issue at all. Multiple writers and actors have said it's not the salaries of movie stars they're worried about -- it's Bob Iger and his ilk making 400m a year while pretending they don't have the money to pay the rest a living wage. Anyway, Margot is the one that personally bought the rights to Barbie from Mattel via her production company so I'm sure she paid herself less in order to try and free up money elsewhere in the budget. It doesn't seem like it now, but there was never a guarantee this movie was going to be a blockbuster success.

A couple million for the lead in a huge undertaking of a film like this is still a lot but more respectable, once we get over 10M I’m like you’re getting overpaid

That's 20M. Streaming companies will pay more because there's no box office to share profits from, which is why she got 25 for Don't Look Up. Also, I don't think this fee applies to movies she produces.

Flanders Posted July 25, 2023 Posted July 25, 2023 That’s huge and more than enough. Not impressed with this thread title
Hurem Posted July 25, 2023 Posted July 25, 2023 Not y’all complaining about an actress getting “only” 12.5 MILLION dollars while you probably don’t make 1% of that in a year
Talento Posted July 25, 2023 Posted July 25, 2023 'Only'? That's a lot, especially considering how her movies usually perform at the box office. Barbie is her first hit since like 2016, almost 8 years ago.
MingYouToo Posted July 25, 2023 Posted July 25, 2023 Makes sense. For the longest time Margot has always existed in this line between prestige and blockbuster side character mold that she thrived in. She was in this Florence Pugh, Saoirse Ronan line of actresses instead of the Jennifer Lawrences and Scarlett Johannsons of the world. Being highlights in Wolf of Wall Street, Once Upon a Time, lead in the Tonya biopic, Harley Quinn, etc. She was a star for sure but she was never THE star (her solo Harley film was cute but it did not elevate her to the star she deserved to be). Every project she was in she was almost always the highlight of (or the second highlight) regardless of how it was received (Babylon, TSS, etc.) But she never had that A-list ubiquitous moment the way A-list actresses have had, JLaw being queen of the YA genre + Scarlett with her vast MCU + indie filmography, etc. Now with Barbie she's having HER front and center moment. She IS the defining actress of 2023 and this project will finally lift her into that upper echelons of Hollywood acting royalty! I can see a Best Picture, Best Actor/Actress nod for them at the Academy too. Billion dollar critical smash!
Popboi. Posted July 25, 2023 Posted July 25, 2023 12.5 million is A LOT upfront payment for an actor, depending on her contract she could earn so much more (or nothing at all), even more so considering she’s also one of the movie’s producers.
