Maxxie Posted July 26, 2023 Posted July 26, 2023 Not Taylor Swift fans calling LOUD generic when it has Man Down and Skin. 1989 could have been released by Katy Perry or KE$HA at the time. Let's not even talk about MIDnights

Katamari Posted July 26, 2023 Posted July 26, 2023 rihanna could do shake it off but could taylor do man down? i don't think so

DamianSolo Posted July 26, 2023 Posted July 26, 2023 I prefer 1989 as an album, overall. I prefer the presentation of Loud, as it relates to the aesthetic and its music videos.
Phaunzie Posted July 26, 2023 Posted July 26, 2023 (edited) Loud for all, the Loud era was perfectly executed from a visual standpoint and demolishes 1989 in terms of MV (S&M & Only Girl says Hello). Preference, Rihanna is my girl despite her unauthorized retirement from music, so I find her vocals more soothing and less you know. Anyways Rihanna for album and Aesthetics, 1989 has no consistent aesthetic. 1989 was a little like Reputation where there was no visual signifiers that you were viewing a 1989 music video. We went from a crazed Taylor in rich, white mansion to being a colonizer in Africa to running in the woods, whereas with Loud, everything was colorful, playful and flirty. Every video had a party vibe, a red or pink ting to the lighting and vibrant coloration to every frame. There was not a shred of Rated R in any of the promotional material, with everything being the opposite to the dark and moody tone of that era. Even her iconic perfume Reb'l fleur had a fantastical, visually cohesive and vibrant video for it that tells you it was made in the Loud era. Trainwreck Posted July 26, 2023 Posted July 26, 2023 1989, no need to write an essay when the truth is clear as day
Mystical Posted July 26, 2023 Posted July 26, 2023 As much as I love Rihanna, 1989 is one of the best pop albums of the 2010s. Max Martin did that
QueenB Posted July 31, 2023 Posted July 31, 2023 1989 clears not only Loud but every single Rihanna album you could throw at it
Raspberries Posted July 31, 2023 Posted July 31, 2023 Loud is one of Rihanna's worst albums. Shameless trend hopping (sans 2 songs) after Rated R tanked
