1989 is probably better than any Rihanna album. Loud is generic af

A "rip-off" that was critically acclaimed and won AOTY, something the "original" (and LOUD) failed to do so.

I love both but I personally prefer Loud singles.

It also won against Kendrick's album and that doesn't make it any better than any of these albums.

Just looking at the choruses of some of the big hits off each album makes it abundantly clear which is better:

Quote

So, it's gonna be forever
Or it's gonna go down in flames?
You can tell me when it's over, mm
If the high was worth the pain
Got a long list of ex-lovers
They'll tell you I'm insane
'Cause you know I love the players
And you love the game
'Cause we're young and we're reckless
We'll take this way too far
It'll leave you breathless, mm
Or with a nasty scar
Got a long list of ex-lovers
They'll tell you I'm insane
But I've got a blank space, baby
And I'll write your name

Quote

You got that James Dean daydream look in your eye
And I got that red lip classic thing that you like
And when we go crashing down, we come back every time
'Cause we never go out of style, we never go out of style
You got that long hair, slicked back, white t-shirt
And I got that good girl faith and a tight little skirt
And when we go crashing down, we come back every time
'Cause we never go out of style, we never go out of style

Quote

Say you'll remember me
Standin' in a nice dress
Starin' at the sunset, babe
Red lips and rosy cheeks
Say you'll see me again
Even if it's just in your
Wildest dreams, ah, ha

Versus

Quote

'Cause I may be bad, but I'm perfectly good at it
Sex in the air, I don't care, I love the smell of it
Sticks and stones may break my bones
But chains and whips excite me
'Cause I may be bad, but I'm perfectly good at it
Sex in the air, I don't care, I love the smell of it
Sticks and stones may break my bones
But chains and whips excite me

Oh na-na, what's my name?
Oh na-na, what's my name?
Oh na-na, what's my name?
What's my name? What's my name?

Cheers to the freakin' weekend
I drink to that, yeah, yeah
Oh, let the Jameson sink in
I drink to that, yeah, yeah
Don't let the bastards get you down
Turn it around with another round
There's a party at the bar
Everybody, put your glasses up and I drink to that
(Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah)
(Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah)
I drink to that
(Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah)
(Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah)

Maybe I'm blinded by bias, but it seems that one of these albums shits all over the other one in every regard. 1989 is better across the board with much more acclaim and much less filler (and is the one awarded with AOTY), the polaroid/bob aesthetic is more memorable than the red wig, and the Blank Space, Wildest Dreams, and Out Of The Woods videos are far superior to the WMN or S&M videos.

Loud for all. Man Down is better and more unique than any TS song.

Kendrick's album and 1989 are critically acclaimed. Can't say the same for Teenage Dream and Loud.

1989 is the better album. LOUD had excellent singles and music videos but that’s it

More than could be said about 1989 considering Bad Blood and Shake It Off were singles

I love loud but it has no iconic videos the only thing big about it are some of the singles and the album itself didn't do that well.

Loud might not have done as well as 1989 commercially but it did very well in its own right come on

Lol not the Bob being more memorable than Rihs red hair when the latter is probably more remembered than anything Taylor has ever done look-wise. and lol not  BS( not bullshit) and OOTW videos being better than Rihannas masterpiece that is Man down or WMN. You really are blinded by bias

The only Taylor albums that have more SPS than LOUD are 1989 and Red. So then all of Taylor's 10 albums didn't do that well I guess?

I was defending loud actually, the person I responded to said it didn't do very well which I was dispelling

I voted for 1989, though if the question for better singles was one, I would have voted for Loud. Vastly prefer the singles from Loud to the singles from 1989 (except for Style and Out of the Woods), but I like the deeper cuts of 1989 more than Loud.

I’m a big Rihanna fan but in 2023, 1989 clears. Loud is one of Rihanna’s most aged albums.
