Machete Posted July 25, 2023 Posted July 25, 2023 Rap isn’t going anywhere. Especially globally. However, I expect the rest of the world to follow suit, sadly.
liquiddiamonds Posted July 25, 2023 Posted July 25, 2023 (edited) Why people wanna force these big points that have zero to do with reality? Barbie doesn’t signal any shift other than audiences buying tickets to watch it… in the real world conservatives are rising again and no second rate superhero movie flopping or Taylor making a bank off her tour is a sign of the opposite Edited July 25, 2023 by liquiddiamonds 2
dlwlrma Posted July 25, 2023 Posted July 25, 2023 Taylor and Barbie are exceptions Music and Cinema still men territory

The last rap song to go #1 was Drake's one week #1 Jimmy Cooks which was released an year ago. Will the Gunna song become the first male rap song to go #1 this year? I won't bet on it seeing the only rap album to go #1 this year is Lil Uzi Vert with barely 150k sps whose last album sold 300k first week. The fact is that Barbie and Taylor are stomping on their male competitors including the MAGAs. You can't ignore the MAGA when they're half the country and about to win the next election
Bloodflowers. Posted July 25, 2023 Posted July 25, 2023 most people who went to see Barbie are straight women, so how are straight people over? femininity is always winning, gays and their testosterone self can only dream 1
Armani? Posted July 25, 2023 Posted July 25, 2023 5 hours ago, Miss Americana said: Straight males exclusively listen to male artists (particularly rap music). But, in recent years, we can see that male rap as a genre, which used to dominate every music culture and conversations, is slowly dying. Even the biggest rap artists can't make mega-smashes so easily like they did back in 2017. Look at Travis Scott, Drake, Kendrick Lamar, Post Malone. They all underperformed or straight up bombed. Female Rap on the other hand is FLOURISHING like never before. What female rappers smashed this year ?

Blue Jeans Posted July 25, 2023 Posted July 25, 2023 (edited) I agree femininity is being more accepted nowadays. There should not be any shame for a straight man to watch Barbie, which is not just glitz and pink. Related to that, in the future, artists like Charli XCX and Slayyyter will be seen as ahead of their times pushing pop music to a more hyper feminine and confident sound. And of course many rap girlies are doing it for the mainstream now and owning their femininity Edited July 25, 2023 by Blue Jeans
TouchinFree Posted July 25, 2023 Posted July 25, 2023 (edited) Reality is way different than what's on this forum lbr. And that article is from a certain perspective tbh. Younger guys all the way to 20's don't ever know a single popgirl song except for doja's say so and the song she did with SZA. Seeing my nephew and his friends struggle to read Beyonce's name when her song played on spotify was just...... all guys( straight) listen to is rap and rap has never been so relevant. Especially underground rap (mostly about crimes they've committed and darker topics). If anything pop music used to be more "tolerated" by straight guys in the early 2000's. Now guys listen mostly to up and coming rappers and some Eminem. Edited July 25, 2023 by TouchinFree
Europe Posted July 25, 2023 Posted July 25, 2023 @Miss Americana the biggest movie of the year is Mario, and it is extremely unlikely that Barbie is going to surpass it. Why are you straight up lying like that in the OP? And other than Nicki getting her yearly hit, female rap is really not doing that well. Taylor is doing well with her tour yes, but so are many men. Why would you start such a combative and hateful thread when all of it is based on lies? 1

Baby Judas Posted July 25, 2023 Posted July 25, 2023 The Top 3 of the BH100 is by country artists. The biggest album of the year is a country album. Straights, racists and homophobes are still winning, I fear.
OrgVisual Posted July 25, 2023 Posted July 25, 2023 Didn't Morgan break some kind of record for longest running #1 album ever? How many weeks of the year did female artists obtain the BB #1 this year?
Popboi. Posted July 25, 2023 Posted July 25, 2023 Exceptions aren't the rule sadly. Also celebrating rap not dominating the top of the charts (but it's still basically everywhere on the charts and more global than ever) is not the tea when the ones at the top are the likes of 3 country artists, 2 of which disgustingly racist bigots.
Just a Gay on ATRL Posted July 25, 2023 Posted July 25, 2023 I feel as if what straight men vs girlies & gays listen to is getting increasingly more distant & we’re going to see their favorite forms of entertainment compete with each other in interesting ways kinda like we’re seeing rn
Selegend Posted July 25, 2023 Posted July 25, 2023 Globally yes, girls are BACK! Taylor and Barbie being the moment. At the United States country/MAGA is huge atm so no, they're just partially back there.
Damien M Posted July 25, 2023 Posted July 25, 2023 Straight women’s wins are NOT queer men’s victories. when will the gays realize this? 1 1

JungleJuice Posted July 25, 2023 Posted July 25, 2023 Margot and Taylor Swift are straight women. Odd choice of a thread title.
