Eglė Posted July 25, 2023 Posted July 25, 2023 Okay, and? Listen, I get what all of you are saying, but respect other people's work. Kelis is the recording artist, and she is (along with the Neptunes) the reason Milkshake, a song that Beyonce interpolated, exists. She, in fact, was the one who popularised the song. It's her song. Sure, Beyonce had the interpolation cleared legally, and the paperwork was done correctly. Kudos! However, respect your fellow artist. Legal stuff aside, be humane and do the right thing, reach out to the recording artist of the song in advance, and let them know of what is happening. Doesn't cost a dime to be nice or respectful. It's up to you entirely to decide whether that's moral or not, and that's fine, it's just a matter of your point of view and opinion. Personally, I don't think it was a nice move from Beyonce. Anyway, we're going a tad off-topic, so let's stick to Azealia's comments instead. 2

Bey will move on from this sound with act ii and Azealia will still be stuck on 2012. Yall give that girl too much just because she's messy and fun. Ru got away with using the exact same sample as Big Big Beat and basically the same opening line to his song. People maybe don’t outright sample azealia often but she’s inspired most of them heavily. And you’re right Beyoncé will move on from using gay ballroom culture as her latest fad. While azealia says some wild stuff she’s proved she’s not using the gay community, shes bi, she was raised in ballroom culture in Harlem.

Beyoncé doesn't work in "reinventions". She doesn't leave styles behind, they become part of the texture of her catalogue. Just like Get Me Bodied led to Single Ladies. Just like after playing Etta James, you can hear the influence in the ballads on 4, just like many of the production ideas of BEYONCÉ led to Lemonade and Renaissance, just like the trap leaning of DIL led to 7/11, Formation, and APESHIT, just as the afrobeats of The Gift led to songs like ENERGY and MOVE. If she "moves on" it's not to discard something, it's just not what she's used at that moment. Not to mention, Beyoncé has been quoted as loving drag queens and gay culture as early as 2006, and actually first met Kevin Aviance in 2003 when she performed at the gay night at The Roxy. She's not always been so directly inspired but it's long been there. Edited July 25, 2023 by swissman

Yeah I was basing it off that the whole album(give or take a few songs like plastic off the sofa) is inspired off gay ballroom culture. It definitely slan outlier in the Beyoncé catalogue trajectory. And house music and ballroom culture is at its peak popularity since madonnas Vogue. So it fits in with the time culturally. The person I quoted said Beyoncé would move on, and I agreed with them. where as azealia I’m sure will try on different sounds like she always has, she started with house and ballroom inspired music a decade ago. She’s ahead of her time and inspiring most.
MermaidPrincess Posted July 25, 2023 Posted July 25, 2023 how about you worry about clearing your own samples before you drop your PayPal mixtapes Esta noche? shirt girl please.
