byzantium Posted July 24, 2023 Posted July 24, 2023 So much of the hype around this film has been driven by Margot so yes. A similar think happened with suicide squad which was not an amazing film, but she was able to make it something a lot of people were interested in.
ATRL Moderator supaspaz Posted July 24, 2023 ATRL Moderator Posted July 24, 2023 We have to see if it carries over to the next movie.

So her career stands or falls with the projects she picks. The only correct answer in here, box office elixir is somebody that can manage to attract people at the movie theater based on their name alone even if the movie is mid or mediocre.

They still would have been excited just the same even if the lead actress was someone else. The success of this movie has absolutely nothing to do with this woman. Lol. She is the producer of the movie. And her beauty, acting skill and charisma made the movie the smash it is. With another actress this would still do well like 40m 50m openning well. Not 155m smash like it is now.

So why did the "beauty", acting skill and "charisma" not assist Babylon, Asteroid City or Amsterdam? The truth is she has no box office draw power and I don't know why people like to pretend on here that she has.
idontdodrags Posted July 24, 2023 Posted July 24, 2023 She was never a box office poison. That doesn’t even exist, unless youre Madonna or Taylor Swift
Junlin Posted July 24, 2023 Posted July 24, 2023 She’s in her Light Year era, after bomb after bomb, watch out her Fever is coming to end you all.
eleganceislearned Posted July 24, 2023 Posted July 24, 2023 I think Barbie the toy/brand is bigger than most or all movie stars tbh. The audience went for Barbie, and Margot benefited from that. Now that Barbie has been successful, teaming up with Ryan Gosling again for the next Oceans 11 movie was a VERY smart move because she and Ryan are building off of people''s fondness for Barbie. This will further put her on the map if all goes well again. 8 hours ago, Nashe said: Who else would've been as gorgeous as her as Barbie while acting perfectly? Literally nobody. There's like three other actresses that look like her clone (and are also good actresses).

Margot has a role in the movie’s success, but she’s not a huge box office draw on her own like JLaw was in the 2010s.
Digitalism Posted July 25, 2023 Posted July 25, 2023 It doesn't work like that with movies The biggest movie stars don't even have movies as big as Barbie.
glacier76 Posted July 25, 2023 Posted July 25, 2023 When did Barbie become seen as a guaranteed hit? Sounds like the same people who thought ASIB was an easy hit. Margot may not be an immediate box office draw (who is?) but her playing Barbie makes a lot of sense to a general audience. Her role as a producer has shown how active she is telling strong stories about strong women. Getting someone like Greta Gerwig onboard is not an easy feat, and should be seen as a reflection of Margot’s skills and influence in the industry. Not to mention getting someone like Gosling in this. given the demographic breakdown of the audience, this was not a guaranteed hit.

Popboi. Posted July 25, 2023 Posted July 25, 2023 Margot was the perfect casting for Barbie, please. She also co-produced the film so it being as good and as successful as it is has a lot to do with her.
ariesgroove Posted July 25, 2023 Posted July 25, 2023 margot was never really the issue for the movies she was in that were underperforming, if you read reviews, almost every performance she’s in has been the highlight or near highlight of the film
Rebel Lion Posted July 25, 2023 Posted July 25, 2023 If she finds the right agent that offers her better movie rolls. The Barbie team came to her lbr
State of Grace. Posted July 25, 2023 Posted July 25, 2023 I think she needs a few more hits to her name before we start calling her a movie star/box office elixir. I love Margod but her box office smashes were honestly carried by bigger names (DiCaprio/Pitt). It doesn't help that her recent projects were absolute ****. She's in a much better position now so we'll see.
