collin Posted July 24, 2023 Posted July 24, 2023 She needs to get her ass handed to her by someone on her team, stat. It’s getting really out of hand at this point
Asscatchem Posted July 24, 2023 Posted July 24, 2023 she wants street cred and honestly respect to her. this parasocial relationship between fans and artist has always been so fake and cringe, glad she's calling it out 1
John Slayne Posted July 24, 2023 Posted July 24, 2023 it does sound like she needs a break from the internet and just focus on her work and real life... but also the dramatics on twitter and in this thread do you really need Doja Cat to say she loves you? it's a bit strange, she's not your friend, you've never even met her... I know artists shouldn't drag their fans but the fans also need to remember that parasocial relationships are one-sided, you might think you know Doja but you really don't. 3
LikeaRebel Posted July 24, 2023 Posted July 24, 2023 It’s true but she shouldn’t say it out loud. 1 1

It's time to learn that these parasocial relationships are fostered and encouraged by celebs labels etc. for material gain. It's not about 'love' and never has been and it's perverse to think that a popstar loves the millions of people who stream their music beyond the funding of their career and some like base level agape or whatever. Doja comes off as ungrateful to fans, which is most are pointing out. She doesn't need to love them as if they are gods but that also doesn't mean she should disrespect those fans who made her career. Your statement is coming off as it is as if celebrities should normalize being arrogant and disregard the fans' existence just because they are backed up by a well-funded label. Is "I don't love you because I don't know you" disrespectful? What she said about them getting a job was for sure but this is a statement of something that should be plain and obvious. We're in a particularly extreme period of celebrity worship and fandom fostered by social media platforms and its impacts stretch way beyond the narrow realm of pop music. If every celeb was as upfront about the tension between their material interests and presenting a false image of closeness to those who consume and enjoy their art then maybe we'd be in a better place. That won't happen of course, because of said material interests , and Doja will become an example of what happens if you don't keep up the charade.
Welovetrouble Posted July 25, 2023 Posted July 25, 2023 (edited) I think we need to stop putting celebrities on a pedestal because outside of their work they are just regular human beings and truthfully speaking you can't love a stranger be it fan or celebrity,I know capitalism encourages this type of relationship for material gain of the artists and labels but truthfully speaking doja is just saying out loud how a lot of celebs view their fans. I also want to add she's a dick but none of your fave celebs love their fans lol, celebrity culture is starting to feel like another type of religion and i get it the world is crazy but like let's be real the means celebrity machinery encourages parasocial relationships with famous people is just all about money not love Edited July 25, 2023 by Welovetrouble

She totally sounds ungrateful and arrogant when she said that and assuming all her fans are jobless is generalizing and very inaccurate because where does she think her fans get their money to buy her music, merch, tickets to see her perform? She thinks she steals them rather than working their ass off for it? There's a lot of artists who work harder than her but will never reach the musical success she had achieved, therefore being kind and at least being appreciative to her fans is literally bare minimum and should be rightfully expected from her. There are indeed pop stars who genuinely care about their fans though, as you can see from their work ethic: Taylor and Beyonce. They literally breathe to entertain the fans, they know how to return the love fans given to them, they do so much to the fans that they even push their personal life to the side sometimes. They know how to act because they are genuinely GRATEFUL people, unlike Doja who is already whining the moment she experienced a dose of success. Celebrities keeping it to themselves is a part of them being professional, they can't just say whatever they want without thinking of the consequences. It's kind of like a celebrity is a worker tolerating a grumpy boss to avoid risk of getting "fired". And since celebrities are on cameras all the time, fans will eventually discover if their faves are being genuine or ingenuine or not. So if the celebrities are being fake with their closeness to fans, it will eventually backfire at them. And as a fan, you can choose for yourself who you wanna support or not, that's literally an individual's freedom as well as their responsibility. A fan with a healthy perspective already realizes that there are BOUNDARIES to stanning an idol. You support your fave in exchange of getting entertained, but don't expect anything beyond than that, be realistic. Btw, Doja did a good job of letting fans know to stay away from her so there's that 2
Marianah Adkins Posted July 25, 2023 Posted July 25, 2023 She needs to log off from the Internet lmao. The way it may even destroy her career is just
