This is terrible PR but you are delusional if you think your idols actually love you

I actually understand not caring about your fans. I have a feeling most pop stars don't reciprocate the love, but they at least appreciate it.

The problem with Doja is it feels like she's intentionally trying to be hurtful. Like you're some 14 year old kid's life and inspiration... they'll grow up and move on eventually, but you don't have to crush them right now.

I understand that Doja is a human being at the end of the day. Wheter she's right or wrong, everything doesn't need to be said even if you're trying to troll.

In all seriousness, I think Doja just wants to create music without the fame or label politics. I really hope she has a stable support system...

Sidenote: I can't imagine the **** her PR team goes through.

The funniest thing about these takes is always the artist/people acting like fans just ‘stumbled’ upon an artist and became crazy obsessed fans, while that couldn’t be further from the truth

There’s been MILLIONS poured into making Doja Cat an artist with fans :skull: this was a multi-year, multi-million dollar plan

She’s busted her ass for years to amass the fanbase she now hates. Don’t act like you were just in your bedroom and suddenly had these ‘crazy people’ online become a fan of you, you went out there to get them

I guess Kittens can join the Cardi fans at the “my fave hates me” table :deadbanana4:

Honestly I don’t think I’ve ever expected a musical artist that I’m a fan of to say they love me/the fans. However, she could’ve said something like “I won’t say I love my fans because I don’t know them. But I do appreciate them and am very grateful for their support. I know I wouldn’t be here without them,”

Because her response is just rude and ungrateful.

She should reveal music retirement and Waffle House residency <3

Failing to see the nuance of things is always the issue.

"Parasocial relationships are bad" is not a new take nor a particularly edgy one. I think most normal and sane people agree with that. That's not what Doja is saying or what's happening here and to act like she has a point is weird af.

"They don't love us because they don't know us" it's a matter of speaking :rip: if I say "I love dogs" that doesn't mean I actually literally love all dogs in the world. It just means that as a collective I find dogs lovable and like what they bring to the world and to our lives. Artists do love their fans in that matter of speaking. They love the appreciation they receive, they love the support they receive, they love being able to make a living out of art and that their job is actually doing something they enjoy doing thanks to them.

I don't think any sane fan hears "I love my fans" from their fave and believes "oh so Taylor Swift actually is fully in love with me as a person." Who is actually arguing that? I do believe Beyoncé loves her fans. If you see her interacting with the crowd at her shows this tour and you think that woman doesn't love what she does and the people that are showing up for her, then you're blind. You don't have to be literal here. We ALL know what "I love my fans" means.

If you're an artist and a performer and you don't love your fans, you shouldn't be an artist and a performer and you should find another career.

She fully told a fan of hers who was just asking what they should call themselves if she didn't like "Kittens" and what their account should be named to delete the entire thing and log off. I'm sorry but that's not just rich coming from someone who has been terminally online her entire life, but also, just... out of touch and absurd.

This rhetoric that being a fan or being interested in pop culture is inherently bad is just bizarre to me. If we aren't enjoying entertainment (music, art, dancing, sports, visual media, etc), then what are we enjoying? Working? People having hobbies is the most normal thing in the world. The key is doing it in a balanced way. If your pop music interest takes over your life or you become entitled to your fav's personal life and choices, then it's obviously bad. If you relish being negative and putting people down and fighting all day, then of course it's not gonna be positive. But simply being a fan and appreciating music or art and being able to escape from the harsh realities that a lot of us face in our day to day lives is not wrong and is not cringe and we don't need to "log off."

We have no reason to believe the fans she has been targeting are doing fandom wrong or in an obsessive way, but we do have reason to believe that she has an unhealthy relationship with being online and social media because she's had multiple episodes of unhingedness since the beginning of her career.

If she has a problem with her fans doing fandom, and using her art as escapism or connecting with it and making that a lifeline to make the bad parts of life bearable, then why is she performing? What's the point of what she's doing? She's against shallow pop songs and wants to make deeper art... but then also doesn't want fans to connect with it? Then what DOES she want?

She's just trying to be edgy. She denounced her own past musical success because it's not edgy enough and has been pushing for an edgier look for a while now. She always wanted to please the incel crowd and incels don't think fandom and pop culture is cool. She desperately wants to be cool for them, her boyfriend included. Good luck.

Finally someone with a sane opinion.

ngl i think this particular sentiment is shared between many artists, they’re just smart enough to not say it publicly

Crayzee how this is a controversial statement! It's time to learn that these parasocial relationships are fostered and encouraged by celebs labels etc. for material gain. It's not about 'love' and never has been and it's perverse to think that a popstar loves the millions of people who stream their music beyond the funding of their career and some like base level agape or whatever.

I feel like this has something to do with the accusations regarding her boyfriend… like she got tired of stans telling her what to do and just blew a fuse over all of this, but i don’t know maybe she should just… log out? :michael:
