GraceRandolph Posted July 23, 2023 Posted July 23, 2023 Which established or upcoming actress has the potential to define film the way Bette Davis did in the 1930s and 1940s and Streep did in the 1980s-2000s, with acclaim, iconic roles and star power?

Riot Posted July 23, 2023 Posted July 23, 2023 (edited) Saoirse was on the right path, but for some reasons she remained a C-list at best (no shade). Both Bette Davis and Meryl Streep were recognized by everybody at their peaks. I can honestly see it for Florence Pugh (if she doesn't get caught up in the MCU mess), Anya Taylor-Joy (if she chooses the "arts not the charts" path), and Zendaya (if she works on getting some serious lead roles in movies). To be fair, Saoirse hasn’t joined the MCU like Zendaya or Florence. Even ATJ did that New Mutants movie.
Trash Posted July 23, 2023 Posted July 23, 2023 (edited) Mia Goth Anya Taylor Joy Edited July 23, 2023 by Trash
One Rude Boy Posted July 23, 2023 Posted July 23, 2023 Saoirse Ronan and Natalie Portman. Jennifer Lawrence and Emma Stone, too, and they are insanely talented but appear to be comedy stars.
Just a Gay on ATRL Posted July 23, 2023 Posted July 23, 2023 There's something special about Anya Taylor-Joy imo, she will definitely win best actress someday 1

Saintlor Posted July 23, 2023 Posted July 23, 2023 (edited) I can't see any of the new gen of actors ever winning an Oscar They all seem like TikTok actors instead of huge talents and huge forces Saorise is the only new actor that doesn't feel like a TikTok actor Edited July 23, 2023 by Saintlor

Zendaya?

I think their popularity is due to being young/skinny (with Timothee benefitting especially from society thinking the way he looks is attractive.. despite being so ordinary and civilian-like) I don't think they have much to offer- especially in terms of acting abilities and screen presence Edited July 23, 2023 by Saintlor
livelikemusic Posted July 23, 2023 Posted July 23, 2023 Anne Hathaway. However, those golden era of actors just simply won't exist anymore.
Keter Posted July 23, 2023 Posted July 23, 2023 Not really a newer actress but I’ve been realizing lately Toni Colette is up there with the greats. Her range is something else!
