The one that spearheaded poptimism, is consumed, discussed and remembered more in 2023 & won AOTY. :clap3:

Taylor modeled 1989 exactly after TD. She never would have pivoted towards pop if it wasn’t for the success of albums like Teenage Dream and Born This Way

Born This Way was nowhere as successful as Fearless or Red.

Teenage Dream didn't invent or popularize Max Martin, electropop, synthpop or colorful music videos. It has 0 impact on 1989. :rip:

It brought literally nothing new.

And 1989 is bigger in every single way.

Teenage Dream had huge digital singles sales, that's it, it's a panned album that failed to produce huge album sales or tour. It was released one year after The Fame Monster and one year before 21,  and the same year as Loud,  in no way shape or form was the biggest pop era/iconic era of its time period, it's one of maybe but that's it, Taylor on the other end STOMPED every single artist except Adele with 1989, so this entire discourse about comparing Katy with Taylor is getting tiring, Taylor's success was in every single metric that exists and the impact it had is that it was one step more in making Taylor the biggest recording artist alive she is in 2023, while Katy is doing what exactly these days?

I question whether 1989 would exist without TD.

1989 doesn't sound as dated which is why I think TD has the upper hand in all bc it IS the essential pop album of the time. Like, if aliens asked us to give them an example of what it meant to be THE pop star of the early 2010s, we'd tell them to go back and witness miss Perry's 3 year long TD era

1989 was a great ALBUM through and through. Teenage Dream had good singles ONLY. That’s the difference:cm:

Somehow these feel like they happened in totally different times :deadbanana:   They can't be compared.

I far prefer 1989 but TD felt bigger at the time, MV's and all.

Not people actually thinking 1989 was by-product of Teenage Dream. :rip:

Anyway, it’s 1989. :heart2:

The results are very typical of ATRL

Shake It Off and Bad Blood are cringey/terrible and Out of the Woods is annoying and too hook heavy.

1989 is timeless while the other is a product of its time

1989 - Both the album and the artist behind it have continued to smash and reach new heights

Teenage Dream has a few cute singles but that's about it

1989 was one of the album that is credited for poptism and we can see the results of that very easily

1989 is literally a knock off of Teenage Dream which not only was apart of the early 2010s pop revival but lingered around most of the decade and inspired future pop records.

It was the biggest female album released in 2010 globally

Those three songs you mentioned literally **** on any of the album tracks on Teenage Dream. That album was clearly crafted as 6 singles and then fillers. Even the not so great songs on 1989 are miles above
