Stem cells transplants is not an easy ride, you have to receive a high dose of chemotherapy that suppress your immune system before the transplant, it's risky with tones of painful side effects. This still remains great news but yes this needed to be underlined.
JayG Posted July 21, 2023 Posted July 21, 2023 (edited) Is it worth the risk? Just wear protection for fucks sake. BUT this is great for people who already have it and need a cure, if it works! Edited July 21, 2023 by JayG 1
HEAVYONIT Posted July 21, 2023 Posted July 21, 2023 (edited) As someone with HIV, seeing everyone in here saying “no more PrEP” because you'll just be able to get cured now (or potentially soon) is highly offensive and insensitive. A disease is a disease. Until there is a vaccine, everyone needs to take precautions. This is amazing, though. Edited July 21, 2023 by Black Jesus 10

That's a dangerous mentality This plus the fact these treatments likely won't be affordable to most people or covered by insurance / only available for those with more advanced cases. The cost of antiretrovirals which are completely safe vs a complicated procedure that could have long-term negative effects.
Bethenny Frankel Posted July 21, 2023 Posted July 21, 2023 Stream The Cure by Gaga to prepare for the cure, this is a huge breakthrough
FOCK Posted July 22, 2023 Posted July 22, 2023 Quote CCR5-delta32" is a deletion mutation of a gene which only 1% of the total population has two copies of this gene and individuals who carry two copies of this genetic mutation are immune to Smallpox, The Bubonic Plague (Black Death) and resistant to HIV, the virus that causes AIDS. Interesting, I didn’t know about this. Incredible strides being made.

KingKhalid Posted July 22, 2023 Posted July 22, 2023 Oh baby I’m a icon now how much does the procedure cost
A.R.L Posted July 22, 2023 Posted July 22, 2023 It’s only a matter of time until they find a cure… just a couple of years ago, it was impossible for an hiv positive person to be undetectable
rzal Posted July 22, 2023 Posted July 22, 2023 now he's gonna have to take PrEP instead of his daily meds

Same thing in the case of undetectable people whose their virus becomes resistant to the hiv drugs they are taking.
