Here in the US, having a 4-year college degree doesn't guarantee that you'll land a job once you graduate. Millions and millions of college graduates are either STILL unemployed or working jobs in service/retail that pay next to minimum wage. As a result, almost all Millennials are still living with their parents or unable to own homes. I'll even go as far as to say that Millennials are relatively poorer than the Boomers. The reason that college graduates can't find jobs is that Corporate America (who essentially control the US economy) eliminated all entry-level positions. You basically need to 'know someone' in order to land a job in your field. I think that at least in Europe, young people can get internships to get their foot in the door. All the internships here in the US have long dried up. 1
AMIT Posted July 26, 2023 Posted July 26, 2023 Poor regular people over at the imperial periphery, this just means they're gonna get exploited even more

The average american citizen is one missed paycheck or one big health crisis away from endng up on the street while europeans live very secure, healthy and safe lives thanks to the excellent social programs. that are funded by the visceral exploitation of poor countries, but go off 2
Eat The Acid Posted July 26, 2023 Posted July 26, 2023 Oh yeah - as a European I wish I lived in America where I would be encouraged to work more, have less free time and engage in brutal capitalism - but at least I’d have a Range Rover SUV and bad credit. I guess I’ll have to cry about it with my 4 day working week, free healthcare, and fairer wealth distribution. I hate it here where we progress peoples civil rights instead of taking them away. Also I wish we had more guns here too. What a horrible place to live. The months of maternity and paternity leave, free third level education and free child care is awful too. But if only we overworked ourselves to prop up private consumption so billionaires can profit off the back of the middle class work and privatise everything so our child care is expensive, healthcare literally violates human rights, and invest more in war and street weaponry so we could be more like USA. Europe is SOOO horrible compared to AMERICA. waaa waaa! *SARCASM* 2
laudibella Posted July 27, 2023 Posted July 27, 2023 America still out-earning everyone else is insane

All the internships here in the US have long dried up. A lot of tea here but internships and scholarships are almost NEEDED to even get your foot in the door in corporate even in the UK. Also, I know people in the US who have been in their industries for 10+ YEARS and even they cant get jobs. Its HELL for entry-level, and just as bad for people who aren't. Basically its all a ******* mess and unless you KNOW someone or have a great reputation in your field, you're ******. Networking is networth. Getting a scholarship or internship is even harder too - you gotta be the BEST to even land one. And you're right about millenials - almost EVERYONE I know, personally and professionally, are either moving BACK in with parents or have been with them since forever. Its all ******. Also, all the established people in their respective fields are branding themselves and are going self employed as freelancers/opening businesses. This is the only way to succeed unless you are high up in corporate and maintain your position for a while. Its... super complex. Lots of people I know want to buy homes, get married, have kids etc but they LITERALLY cannot afford to have a ******* family - this is how dire the situation is. Whats the point of grinding so hard if you're just breaking even? The truth is, to live a FULL life, you HAVE to succeed, its not even an option to fail tbh. And you've got to make a whole lot of sacrifice AND lean on family etc. Its... really dark. Edited July 29, 2023 by JayG
