So I was thinking today about drugs (as you do) and I thought, what if we just legalised them all? A few reasons why:

  • They're a major source of income for criminal gangs so it would severely impact their business
  • If drugs were legal they could be regulated and people could be sure they were getting the real thing
  • People will and do take hard drugs regardless of the law, so is it not better for it to be out in the open than hidden behind closed doors?
  • I imagine certain substances would lose their appeal somewhat if they weren't illegal, especially with teenagers who often get into drugs as a form of rebellion.
  • We could tax them

What are your thoughts?

I somewhat agree with this. I think drugs likes mdma should be legalised but heavier things like heroin shouldn’t be… humans don’t know self control so it would be terrible if everyone had free reign

Yes. It would improve public health by allowing for wider access to clean drugs, users no longer being afraid to disclose use to medical providers, and destigmatizing would allow for better education.

I would legalize the use but not the sale.

I’m all for the the recreational use of drugs and I would legalize most of them.

But some drugs are just too much and will definetely ruin lives and those shouldn’t be legalized. Take heroin once and you end up selling your body, sawing off your infected arm, turning into a whittled down zombie.

For medical use? Sure!

For recreational use??? Not that sure. You can do whatever you want with your body, but why should society as a whole have to burden the dramatic effects of people becoming addicted to these drugs?. It's either, you invest all these funds into rehab centers or you have streets plagued by people so far gone that end up skyrocketing crime rates and putting others at risk.

I understand the argument against harder stuff that users can easily get addicted to (meth, heroin, etc.) but the same could relatively be applied alcohol and tobacco. Alcoholism is a huge issue and people die of complications from it or alcohol poisoning each year. I know multiple smokers and they all have legitimate health issues. In principle, what makes it "allowable" or moral to effectively let people use and become addicted to certain substances but not others?

Currently, I'm for decriminalization, regulation and testing of substances, better education, and more access to rehab programs.
