Carly Rae Jepsen - Joshua Tree: cute in a disposable way

Rihanna - Yeah, I Said It: super duper intimate and gorgeous :jonny:

Bebe Rexha - When It Rains: expected to pan but it's undeniable in some ways. Alena bestie you might be getting some points!

Ariana Grande - obvious: this is kind of Ariana by numbers but thankfully I like it enough

Madison Beer - Home To Another One: not bad but it didn't provoke much of a response from me

NewJeans - Cool With You: it's nice, although if we're being real its also incredibly unremarkable

Eftalya Yağcı - ÂN: okay Turkish queen? This sound is really cool!

Florence + The Machine - Kiss With A Fist: I would really like to give this points as the album is in general is very nostalgic to me, but in honesty I don't enjoy this one

INNA - Devil’s Paradise: why did this not build at all? :skull: it was very one note, and what little there was isn't good enough to justify that

Rihanna - Higher: you know you snatched a serve

Kali Uchis - Hasta Cuando: it's fine, well produced, could scrape points

Rico Nasty - Skullflower: really interesting choice! Could be good but the stylistic effects on the vocals make it difficult to stomach unfortunately

SZA - Blind: sooOOOooo pretty!!!

Ravyn Lenae - Like You Do: chill and lovely

NewJeans - ETA: i like it more than the other one!

Charlie Puth - Charlie Be Quiet!: there are hints of being catchy but overall it fails to get there for me. really jarring contrast between the meek verses and cheap/loud chorus

Ava Max - Hold Up (Wait A Minute): I can't deny this really packed in the hooks for such a short song, so much so it felt normal length. decent pick tbh

Amaarae - Sociopathic Dance Queen: also feels very developed for the length. sparkly feel good vibes which I will reward highly!

AH, TASTE.

Qveen Herby - Abracadabra: I LOVED HER in Karmin, but I never felt her solo career. This is not an exception.

Adanna Duru - ur a *****: Kinda bland. Meh?

SZA - Wavy (Interlude): Never liked her. Bland.

Charli XCX - February 2017 (feat. Clairo & Yaeji): Meh? Why is this round so bland so far? :deadbanana4:

Harriette - at least i’m pretty - I like it, I could listen to it on the beach at 8PM, when the sun slowly goes down.

Ava Max - Choose Your Fighter - the beginning sounds like all of her songs, then it becomes a good 90s rave impression, but her voice... wtf, she never sounded that bad. Hey, Mark Ronson, I could sing it better and earn 10$, instead of Ava.

Hatchie - Thinking Of - it goes nowhere. It pretends to be chill, but it is noisy and bland. I swear, I listened to it multiple times and I still don't remember it. Thank u, next.

FLO - Summertime - neither very good nor very bad. I like R&B vibe, but this latin guitar annoys me. It should be more urban banging.

As before everything is within the spoilers and tldr is bolded at the end

Spoiler

Carly Rae Jepsen - Joshua Tree

For a long time I was not a Carly fan (to be fair I was pretty neutral on her but its fun to pretend I was a hater). When she released this album I went into it with some skepticism because I haven't really vibed with the way she does pop. I was surprised to find the production on TLT had some really interesting elements that I don't think she's necessarily explored before. It felt like that SpongeBob meme: this is what we've been waiting for! All this to say Joshua Tree is an example of her growth/evolution and how it's starting to finally click with me. There's a feel good vibe to this, a slight suave-ness, and I think it works better with her higher pitched vocal than before. This song just feels cool and kind of breezy, it will be getting a few points from me.

Rihanna - Yeah, I Said It

I always see people consider ANTI to be one of, if not the, best album Rihanna has done. I'm not sure if that's where my opinion lies but its hard not to see why with songs like this. Rihanna is the ultimate pop star in so many ways. Basically everything she tries either sets a trend, OR its just so effortlessly well done that she feels like an expert at it. This is a strong example, it feels so natural for her, I'd love more songs like this. This will definitely get some points, likely in the middle of my ranking.

Bebe Rexha - When It Rains

This album is SO generic but generic CAN mean fun and I think it nailed it for the most part. I am truly over songs that sound like this but I can't deny that this is pretty enjoyable, if low effort. Bebe is such a fascinating figure in pop to me idk why. All this to say this will maybe get points but might be in the lower end of my top ten.

Ariana Grande - obvious

Yeahhhhh idk. Positions is such a whatever album to me, I almost can't even listen to it because of just how blah it feels. It's a whole thing but I do feel like I outgrew her music a bit and its unfortunate that as a former fan I just kind of don't care anymore. I feel like this song is so low effort and in one ear out the other. I don't really have much to say, it's just not interesting and will not get points from me, I'm sorry.

Madison Beer - Home to Another One

Okay Tame Impala... Honestly one of the best songs off her album to me was Sour Times which had a similar psychedelic influence to its production. I'm very happy to see her lean further into that sound because it gives her musical style more of a dynamic element compared to straightforward Born to Die'd indie pop (or that string of random ballads she was doing). Pretty excited to hear more from this album and hope it follows this sound. I like this song quite a lot and need to give it more attention, this will be in my upper half!

NewJeans - Cool With You

They are simply the princesses of pop, if you don't get it then... idk what to say! Everything about this EP is near flawless and this is my favourite song outside of the first two tracks. You won my ballot easily.

Eftalya Yağcı - ÂN

This is actually really cool. It has this nighttime synth pop vibe that I'm really liking. Super cool discovery - will get points from me!

Florence + The Machine - Kiss With A Fist

Can't get into Florence's music at all :/ Her voice is not something I particularly like, and for the most part I don't enjoy her music BUT this is actually kind of cool. I like the rockier production on this, it feels a lot more satisfying than the overblown "fantasy epic-core" stuff she usually does. It's a lot more grounded and in fact has a nostalgic 2000s indie vibe - think Starbucks free song of the week. The lyrics are kind of... questionable :skull: MAY get points may just miss out.

INNA - Devil’s Paradise

This is surprisingly... low energy? I'm used to INNA being poolside songs that blast out of speakers. I don't feel anything with this at all.

Rihanna - Higher

Cool in theory, I like the idea of a song basically being a drunk phone call. But outside of the context of the album this just feels very interlude-y and doesn't really offer much replay factor. Like I don't anticipate myself listening to this for fun or anything :skull: I like the idea but not for this round/game I guess, unfortunately will miss my top ten.

Kali Uchis - Hasta Cuando

It's cool, pretty vibey, albeit almost venturing into elevator territory. I think its a bit more of a mood piece, although the production definitely is pretty endearing. It reminds me of something like an Erika de Casier song (or more likely, it has a touch of Sade influence). Also random aside I need to revisit this album because I don't remember moving to much of it even though it IS pretty. Can't say if I will give this points definitively but I may give it a point or two depending on how the rest goes.

Rico Nasty - Skullflower

The beat is soooo sick, I could listen to this on loop for the instrumental alone. The overall vibe is like a mishmash of emo rap/cloud rap, synth pop, and a touch of hyperpop element. Ugh it's just so cool and stands out so much, the energy is insane. This will definitely get points from me!

SZA - Blind

Outside of the singles this is by far the standout from the album for good reason. Everything about this summarizes exactly why SZA is one of the most endearing songwriters in pop right now to me. This combines her typical stream of consciousness style of lyricism with one of the most brutally earnest emotional delivery I've heard. Everything about this just falls into pieces in the most perfect way. Pitchfork is bones (hofork is better) but they did NOT lie when they called this an all-timer. This was a stunning entry and if not for NewJeans would've been my winner - will definitely be near the top though.

Ravyn Lenae - Like You Do

QUEEN!!!!!!!! Her album was incredible and one of my favourites from 2022 easily. Her voice is so magical and enchanting, and the way she knows exactly what kind of beat works best with her artistry is incredible. This song feels so instantly nostalgic and hits me in a lot of emotional ways. It's more than just a "chill" R&B song, it feels like magic. My only concern is that it doesn't really offer much beyond the same lyric repeated throughout likely because it was conceived as something like an interlude. Given that it does just feel like an interlude I don't know where it'll place, but I hope to give it a point or two.

NewJeans - ETA

They are simply the princesses of pop!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! [2] Absolutely incredible song. They have a certain spark to their music that is like pure candy. This is the aesthetic I want to LIVE in. Won't win but will probably be second place, SLAYYYYY!

Charlie Puth - Charlie Be Quiet (NO purple for him :!ohno:)

How Caroline of him. Everything about him feels like just a continuation of the Maroon 5 tier of pop which I can't stand. He's got a shtick of being the "unlucky nice boy in love" and everything about that is just disgusting to me. That being said the 5 second rock chorus is fun, I would say he should do that more but I won't be listening either way. No points from me, but honestly probably the best song from his album.

Ava Max - Hold Up (Wait A Minute)

It's hard to necessarily fall in love with this for me because I am personally just tired of this sound being done to death. I have to give her props for always doing uptempo stuff though because so many people are lacking energy lately and we want bops sometimes! I don't anticipate this will get points from me but I don't dislike it, just not really feeling anything for it.

Amaarae - Sociopathic Dance Queen

Super cool song that I need to give more attention. I will be revisiting this album!! I do think her voice takes some getting used to for me, but this song is really cool and dance-y in a new way, I give her props for that. I will give this a few points!

Decent group overall but despite seeming super competitive I was kind of whelmed by half of it :skull: that being said I fear I am in danger.

PinkPantheress - Angel - when it started I was like: oh ok, next bland song, with no intriguing vibe. But then comes this folk sound, which impressed me. Good choice.

Posted

Tove Lo - ******* - I forgot how it bangs. Slay.

Posted

Carly Rae Jepsen - Sideways - cute song, probably ends up being high in our group, but honestly - I have no clue, why. Just a song, nothing special.

Posted

Ice Spice - Princess Diana: Oh, okay. It's not that bland, but I'm not impressed.

Posted

Shygirl - Playboy / Positions - please, all those gays are pissing from excitement, but come on - pseudo sexual mess, with no rhythm, mumbling on Selena Gomez' level. BYE

Posted

Sudan Archives - Selfish Soul - okay, it's not forgettable. I like the dark vibe, but I am not 100% fan of it. Might get a point or two.

Posted

BAYLI - sushi for breakfast - interesting, but more bland than Sudan Archives.

Posted

MARINA - Bubblegum ***** - classic, ha. One of the best from Electra Heart, but album is mediocre. If it was on "The Family Jewels" it wouldn't be Top 5 song.

Posted

Ayesha Erotica - Hungry Baby - next mess, pseudo banger, annoying in every single way. You need a God in your life, or better a taste.

Posted

Kesha - Only Love Can Save Us Now: FINALLY, SOMETHING GREAT. Her best song since Die Young. :clap3:

Posted

100 gecs - 757 - lmao, how can someone listen to this seriously? If it's a meme song, it's the least funny I know. Thank God it's short songs theme, I survived somehow. You should be banned and panned.

Posted

Slayyyter - Daddy AF: Don't get me wrong, I LOVE HER. But this feels like a piggy ride because she won last round.

Posted

The Weeknd - Stargirl Interlude (feat. Lana Del Rey) - not bad, but it's sounds exactly like an intro. I like the rhythm and dark vibe.

Posted

Chrissy Chlapecka - Head ***** - another slutty banger, oh how original y'all. At least it's possibly the best one, catchy somehow.
