Aaliyah - Messed Up: this is a little bit messy kjasklfas like it feels like it’s being held together at the seams idk how to describe it. But overall it’s fairly cute

Gaelle - Give It Back: Appreciate it for being more unique, this album was def ahead of its time however I’m unsure if I love this song. It’s nice

Girlicious - Baby Doll: cheap if we’re being honest, might have tapped my foot a little

Janet Jackson - Island Life: not obsessed, but it’s cute

Monica - Knock Knock: shshdhd I didn’t realise her music was this mediocre

Toni Braxton - The Heat: this was nice and pleasant

Danity Kane - Ride For You: this one fell kinda flat to me

Kelis - Sugar Honey Iced Tea: definitely more enjoyable than the Kelis song a couple of rounds ago

Kelly Price - Good Love: maybe a bit too repetitive but this was a good discovery

Janet Jackson - Damita Jo: didn't care for this one at first but it grew on me

Gaelle - Give It Back: it wasn't bad but didn't do anything for me

Alicia Keys - Wreckless Love: it was alright, I never cared for her music that much

Girlicious - Baby Doll: I don't have a problem with dated bops but this one feels kinda messy

Janet Jackson - Island Life: just as good as Damita Jo I'd say

Monica - Knock Knock: this had some annoying elements

Aaliyah - What If: this one was interesting, reminds me of some 90s Janet songs

Janet Jackson - SloLove: definitely her best song here

Aaliyah - Messed Up: didn't know this existed, it's pretty catchy

Danity Kane - Want It: as far as dated bops I think this one is better than Girlicious

Spoiler

Toni Braxton — The Heat

This woulda been perfect to discover last wk during the heat wave over here, hahaa. Solid opener to the round. Always loved her tone.

Danity Kane — Ride for You

LLLLLIIIIIIIIKKKKEEEE. (not gonna lie this is my least-played single of theirs but it still goes)

Kelis — Sugar Honey Iced Tea

Sounds like it also coulda been released in the ‘10s as well. It holds up!

Kelly Price — Good Love

Ooh, nice to see Ms. Price here. Definitely Top10’ing this - hope you make it through.

Janet Jackson — Damita Jo

Can’t go wrong with Janet. I like the arrangement on this1 particularly.

Gaelle — Give It Back

The song’s weak but I’m going through this situation rn fff; so I might give a point.

Alicia Keys — Wreckless Love

Pre-chorus is GREAT on this & there’s good progression throughout / love the urgency in the back half.

Girlicious — Baby Doll

This feels too Pop-infused (hate to sound like the Genre Police). & while I’m a sucker for “dated” songs, the harmonies on this aren’t processed that well which is usually what sells me with girl groups :/ I feel bad ‘cause other than that it’s cute… butyeah gets washed w the competition.

Janet Jackson — Island Life

Can’t go wrong with Janet. [2] Nice&breezy.

Monica — Knock Knock

Is that Missy on the intro? Love that & the outro - might give a pt just for that tbh hahaaa. Other than that though, the song felt a bit bland / while I’m not familiar with her discography she’s super talented so I’mma assume there were better options.

Aaliyah — What If

Not me thinking my phone was malfunctioning or something at first. Butyeah I got no clue what she’s saying half the time / what’s really going on here.

Janet Jackson — SloLove

Can’t go wrong with Janet. [3] I liked this1 of the three sent the most. (shoutout to the other senders though, I know what it’s like to come 3rd in same-artists hahaaa)

Aaliyah — Messed Up

Feels a bit hectic in certain areas but the second half / the calmer pace was nice.

Danity Kane — Want It

LLLLLIIIIIIIIKKKKEEEE THIS ABSOLUTE KNOCKOUT. NOT ONE OF THE GREATEST ALBUM CUTS OF ALL-TIME BEING SENT. Easiest 12pts like ever.

Blessing Z w earlier-than-usual critiques. Also agree that this was an unexpected batch of submissions for sure
