COBRAH - Brand New *****

Yessss electroclash. Despite seeming like such a simple song there's a lot of cool elements that add to the overall experience. The synths almost sound like motorcycles revving their engines, etc. The chorus is super addictive and catchy too, this will be in my head for a while. It's a cool experience that I enjoyed!

Mallrat - UFO (feat. Allday)

Feels like a graduate of Tumblr university. It's nostalgic in a way, because it definitely sounds like something you'd hear in like 2015. Overall not a bad song or anything but it doesn't really reach any high point for me, its a bit static.

Aly & AJ - Talking In My Sleep

The beat reminded me of Cyndi Lauper's Time after Time which excited me at first. Well the song turns out to not be as good as that classic but it was a pleasant listen nonetheless.

Christopher - When I Get Old (feat. Chungha)

Had no idea this collaboration even existed :cri: I'm not exactly a fan of this style of pop, it definitely has a radio filler vibe to it. I feel harsh about not liking this but it definitely occupies a specific space where it feels like pop on autopilot, there aren't really interesting elements that make it stand apart from the endless sea of radio songs.

Billie Eilish - I Didn't Change My Number

Yayyyy :boat: this immediately captured me on my first listen of the album. Billie knows how to make a song grip you immediately and this does exactly that (with that scary ass intro). But yeah the production of this is so intriguing, the elements of random sound samples that is typical in her music makes everything feel distinct. I love the lyrical content of this song (and most of HTE) since it definitely takes a step into a more mature direction but maintains the "darker" somewhat ominous style that is her signature. I feel like this is a great bridge between her debut and HTE and it has held up well.

I still prefer her debut but this album is also a solid 8/10... this might get some points!

Brandy - It’s Not Worth It

I never really got into Brandy's discog  so thanks to whoever submitted Focus a few rounds back and this entry , I will be exploring what I missed out on. Love how she layers her vocals similar to how Mariah does it.

ur pretty - Fill Me Up

boring, and like weirdly generic? this sounds like 10 other songs at once, also he randomly sounds like Kid Laroi

Paramore - You First

I keep meaning to jump back into this album but it feels like it barely exists to me and I don't know why or what that means. Sooo I vastly prefer Paramore's pop punk/emo roots to what they've done later in their career. That being said this does feel like a slight return to form, just with a coat of like... "indie'd" paint. There's almost a Wolf Alice vibe here which I find interesting, especially in the way the vocals are produced. On it's own it's not the most gripping song ever but it might get a couple of points because I do like it... and maybe this will be the push to revisit the album I need. :gaycat6:

Lexie Liu - i wanna tell u

Enjoyable listen, I dug a little and she has several bops I see. Some lovely obscure artists have been unearthed during  this round and I'm here for it.

Sabrina Carpenter - Read Your Mind

The disco'd trend just will not die :skull: this isn't bad, it's definitely one of the more charming and fun songs off her last album which I appreciate. It gets dangerously close to like... Selena Rare-core where it feels like a bit of a watered down attempt at a popular sound or style. But I think her vocals kind of add a fun element to this song that I like. She occupies this unique space in between a whispery, sultry voice and a fairy-like pretty voice. I often find the best aspect of her songs is her vocal performance, because it can be really enchanting. But yeah this album has some fun, pretty songs that don't aim to be anything more than that, and I'm fine with that because it does them well! This might get a few points~

(idk if this is annoying but I'm doing it so I can keep track of my own comments jslkfs)

Imogen Heap - Daylight Robbery

Her vocals here make it SO clear where Caroline's influences lie :deadbanana2: there are times where it literally sounds like Caroline (obviously I know Imogen is the teacher here but you know). I was a bit taken aback in a good way at the production and noise pop elements because I just didn't expect something like that from this artist idek. I feel like there's a lot going on however which can get a bit distracting. I think it's because her vocals and the production can feel like they're competing for attention. This might prompt me to check out the album though, I'm intrigued about what other styles she explores... but as for points I'm unsure just yet.

Victoria Monet - Ass Like That

Not bad at all, fun song :swing:. It's kind of just a straightforward song so I'm struggling to come up with my usual 3-4 sentences. I guess my only critique is it feels a bit repetitive. I enjoyed it but can't confirm points just yet!

It's really not so bad to be honest  in comparison to the competition,  something hyonotizing about it

NIKI - Keeping Tabs

Wait? I don't remember how I felt about this album back when I listened but I do think she is due another listen because I don't remember this. Immediately this feels super nostalgic, like one of those songs from a the mid-10s that you look back at fondly. I love the energy of the chorus. The whole song is a bit gentle but still fun, and I like the lyrics a lot. I'll definitely give this a few points!!

Rina Sawayama - Alterlife

Screams potential winner.

Reminds you of how cool her earlier work was :jonny2:. Also the way this incorporates some of the early 2000s pop-rock elements that she has been interweaving into her music since is so cool to see. It feels like it set the stage for the rest of her career albeit kind of doing it better. I find this song just so entrancing for some reason. Slay

Chappell Roan - Hot to Go!

Okay 90s alt girl. The vocal delivery here is kind of cool, and totally different from most of her other songs! I feel like this is one of those fun little silly songs that you either get or don't. I can't see myself wanting to listen to this for fun but its a nice little quirky listen I guess.

Troye Sivan - What A Heavenly Way To Die

Incredibly romantic and loving. There's a sense of melancholy to his voice (that is in almost all his songs lbr, I guess he's an indie sad boy at heart), but it actually makes the sentiment of this song strike even harder. I feel like its a more elevated version of some of his other "love songs" and probably one of his most convincing emotional deliveries ever. Definitely a Bloom highlight and will easily get points from me! XXOeQGE.png
