MusicLoverDude Posted July 20, 2023 Posted July 20, 2023 Summer Love - I forgot this song existed but this was one of my favorites on Side B. Still gives off feel good vibes for this time of year
MusicLoverDude Posted July 20, 2023 Posted July 20, 2023 Girl Is a Gun - This song is ok. Production kind of overwhelms me a bit.
MusicLoverDude Posted July 20, 2023 Posted July 20, 2023 Godhead - This is ok but not really my thing.
MusicLoverDude Posted July 20, 2023 Posted July 20, 2023 ******* Stockholm - foreign languages aren't really my thing although the melody sounds good.
MusicLoverDude Posted July 20, 2023 Posted July 20, 2023 Need Your Love - Ummm I don't really like the change up at the chorus and the change up at the verses. Too much.
MusicLoverDude Posted July 20, 2023 Posted July 20, 2023 What It Is - this is more interesting than she usually is.
MusicLoverDude Posted July 20, 2023 Posted July 20, 2023 Bunny Is a Rider - this was actually pretty good too
MusicLoverDude Posted July 20, 2023 Posted July 20, 2023 Lucid Dream - Better than the other foreign language song
MusicLoverDude Posted July 20, 2023 Posted July 20, 2023 jealousy, jealousy - This is better than I remembered.

Snail Mail - Ben Franklin: nice Taylor Swift - ’tis the damn season: okay
MusicLoverDude Posted July 20, 2023 Posted July 20, 2023 Rascal (Superstar) I like her bad ***** attitude here. Not as good as the first Tinashe but might get points
poki Posted July 20, 2023 Posted July 20, 2023 Wish I could rate them all, there's a few tracks on the other two teams that I like
MusicLoverDude Posted July 20, 2023 Posted July 20, 2023 Undo (Back To My Heart) - This is similar to the dance pop songs by her I like. I actually liked all three Tinashe songs here.
MusicLoverDude Posted July 20, 2023 Posted July 20, 2023 Ben Franklin - This actually got my attention right away - it's very moody and the production REALLY sets the mood well. Very unexpected discovery this round
MusicLoverDude Posted July 20, 2023 Posted July 20, 2023 tis the damn season - Ending on a very high note the guitar riffs go OFF and Taylor really goes off too.
Moonlightbae Posted July 20, 2023 Posted July 20, 2023 Jessie Ware - What’s Your Pleasure? smash! maybe you can survive even with your points halved x
smholiv Posted July 20, 2023 Posted July 20, 2023 bunny reviews!! group a wherein I write too much for a first round of a game... check the italicized section for quick info! Spoiler Jenevieve - Division : wait a second :letmebop: this is kind of fun. I quite like when people interpret "retro" styles like 80s or 90s or whatever in slightly different ways. This has a bouncy fun quality to it that feels more authentic to the time it's referencing for me. I like the chorus a lot and I think her voice, while occasionally getting drowned out by the production, works well with the general vibe. It was a fun little song that I think would rank in the middle of my top ten! Sleigh Bells - True Seekers : they've both come a long way since their first stuff but also haven't changed very much? in a lot of ways this gives a random chvrches song but different. for some reason what's not working is her vocal performance. I feel like with their earlier music it had more of an edge or a grit to it which gave them a very fun rebellious nature. here it's a bit generic so it makes the song feel a bit more flat. not a terrible song but might just miss my top ten. Attila - Callout : way to stand out. I was definitely caught off-guard but it's somewhat interesting in theory. not my thing though so probably will not rank this. Rise Against - Talking To Ourselves : feels like 2005 male rock in a song. derogatory. Conan Gray - The Cut That Always Bleeds : the issue with Conan is that his music is wholly derivative, not just of other artists, but the very concept of a "sad boy" generation. it plays into ideas of what a cinematic moment should be... without having any cinematic quality at all. it's hard for me to really gain anything noteworthy out of this song but that's the thing - it's not like, terrible. it just feels kind of blah, like I'd rather be doing literally anything else. TWICE - GO HARD : this sounds straight out of the euro/tropical/Ibiza house movement. In a lot of ways it makes me nostalgic despite not hearing this until now, but I guess the sort of breakdown falls a bit flat. I think I'd love this more if it had a bit more energy overall. Not bad at all, might just miss my top ten though. HAIM - I Know Alone : now this is an album I have not touched since 2020 :cri: definitely a great option for the assignment. I actually might give this a little boost because it really does seem to narrate that era really well. it's overall pretty smooth and nice to listen to, not super exciting but very solid and might be in the lower section of my top ten. Erika de Casier - Polite : I've been revisiting this album and it's definitely a mega vibe. a lot of the songs are very "chill" on the surface but they have a lot of unique touches both in terms of production and style, that elevate them to something you want to loop for a bit. this song in particular is a bit of a highlight, I love how conversational the lyrics are, and her delivery is both subdued yet full of personality. also this feels like one of the most Sade-esque songs off the album (in a good way!) and has a very 90s vibe/almost an ambient video game vibe? overall this is a really cool song and the more I listen the more I appreciate aspects of it, it will definitely be near the top! Ava Max - Naked : Ava takes a break from the 2010'd nostalgia for something that feels a bit more 2000s and the results are the best song on the album! this track is just so purely feel good, the lyrics and everything are so typical pop but it actually makes a lot of sense here? like this might be reading too much into it, but this feels like one of those childhood songs you'd hear that would instantly click years later. pure nostalgia without being bogged down by obvious samples... she was a genius here. this will be in the upper half of my top ten for sure! girl in red - hornylovesickmess : she's not a bad artist but sometimes her songs get sooo unbearably quirky that it's entirely off-putting. this sounds like a song a Goodreads commenter would love. I'm fine with a bit of Tumblr revisiting in pop, but this ventures into the wrong territories. this will sadly miss my top ten, but there's other good songs on the album~ Shygirl - TASTY : the BOPPPPP, the incredibly layered production is so satisfying, her vocal delivery is so breathy and light that it feels like it's becoming synonymous with the hip house beat. overall this feels like a breezy, energetic, dance song which is what that genre needs to aspire to. no more of these boring people hopping on a disco beat while delivering the most tepid adult contemporary performance ever - go all the way in. this will definitely be near the top! Miley Cyrus - High : this might just sound worse because of what its coming after :cri: but yeah this is sort of a momentum killer. I'm not a fan of her voice in general but it especially feels a bit screechy here. I do appreciate elements of the country-fied production however. I think this would benefit from a bit more restraint in the vocal and a bit more going on in the production. it's a decent song but feels kind of awkward as well. definitely do not hate it, but likely not in my top ten. Lil Mariko - Hi, I’m a **** : finally a song for me. I love the way this is a clear subversion but without taking itself too seriously. we appreciate a reclaiming anthem but yeah the production goes hard too, it's kind of got a cloud trap vibe but it has these digital elements that make it almost video gamey. huge bop, love a simple little song about being a ****, will be in the upper half of my top ten! chloe moriondo - Dizzy (feat. Thomas Headon & Alfie Templeman) : simple little indie pop song. this is the kind of song that has that feel good quality where it would fit well in a commercial or something. the most off-putting thing here are the features that arguably add nothing, and if anything take away from her fairly dreamlike delivery. otherwise not much to really hate here but also nothing that is jumping out as a must to revisit. will likely miss my top ten or just make it depending on if I need filler or not. Slayyyter - Troubled Paradise : the term perfect pop song is thrown around a lot these days... this is literally one of the clearest examples. the production is the perfect bridge between some of her more hyper pop leaning stuff and her affinity for the best qualities in bubblegum. I can't get enough of that beat, and the way she takes control of it. this 100% feels like what a "MPG" type song would sound like in our minds. this will absolutely be near the top, if not my winner. Miley Cyrus - WTF Do I Know : this has more interesting elements to it than the other song. also this is making me realize how much she changes her style each time jskfljsf. but yeah this time her vocal delivery which is usually the thing that holds me back from her music, is actually one of the best qualities. it really works well with the production which is like "rock-influenced" and not forward rock. she does this style well, I think it would've benefitted her to pursue this style further. definite highlight from the album! will be in my top ten, but possibly in the lower half. Kylie Minogue - I Love It : disco has been done to deathhh but I can't fault this since 2019-2020 is when it started taking off a lot, I'm just so personally tired of it ssfkjsf. but yeah if there was ever someone to do disco I feel like Kylie is a great contender. I actually enjoy this honestly. I think it would benefit from a bit more energy or spark, but overall solid and way more interesting than another "disco" album that is always sent in these games :teehee: will probably be in the lower half of my top ten, depending on the others (so it might get cut). Romy - Lifetime : nahhhhh sorry I can't get into this at all. this is the kind of synth pop that is reserved for restaurants that are overly expensive for no reason, have wood tables and stools, and are known for their avocado toast. it's devoid of anything that makes me enjoy the synth pop genre and it's largely due to the fact that everything sounds like it was dragged through mud. sorry about this but this is one of those songs that I personally can't stand, this won't get points. Magdalena Bay - You Lose! : I was not able to really get into this album in the same way everyone else did buttttt you happened to send the one song that I absolutely adore. in fact this is probably their best song to me. I'm very much a fan of really solid and euphoric pop rock/shoegaze and love how this track blends that with digicore electronic production. there's so much going on here and it's all just so fascinating. every time you listen to this it gets better and better and that chorus is everything I love. this will definitely be near the top. Rina Sawayama - Bad Friend : I've fallen out of love with sawayama over time, but there are definitely elements to it that make me nostalgic. this also feels like a flagship 2020 album to me for whatever reason. sadly this was never one of my favourites, I feel like its a pretty solid song overall but it kind of falls apart at that corny bridge. still this is bringing back good memories and I do like the free-flowing, cinematic yet relatable lyrics. this will get points but likely in the bottom half of my top ten. had to do it in spoilers <3 and yeah sorry I like them all in one post and will prob continue to do so bc I like having everything together. thanks everyone! this was fun and a lot of variety in R1 which was nice
