touchofmyhand Posted October 13, 2023 Posted October 13, 2023 (edited) I feel like Angel Baby would fit on this album very well. Perhaps as the album closer. Edited October 13, 2023 by touchofmyhand 5

I thought Rush would've been more mature sound a la Rush. Even a track like Got Me Started is cute. But give us something else. Yeah - it’s not like I’m asking for all songs about sex, but there are ways to tackle different subject matters relevant to gays that aren’t done in such a childish way. I will still support him bc I’m always happy to have a gay pop star though

And I think the sorta midtempo sad boy diary entry type song is pretty overdone at this point. It’s well produced but I just wish he went down a different direction. I’m not saying I oppose variety but it’s just too childish for me as a 31 year old.. I see what you mean sonically, and to clarify I do largely agree with you. I was just poking fun at how unfortunately the gay community means dealing with a lot of peter pan syndrome types lol – eg. why I hope One Of Your Girls is done with some level of self awareness (I haven't dived into the lyrics much yet) and satire.
Alex Posted October 13, 2023 Posted October 13, 2023 this album being my first justifiable vinyl pre order in ages ugh I knew he wouldn't let me down
unino Posted October 13, 2023 Posted October 13, 2023 the whole album just flows really nicely, very easy to listen to and quite lot of little fun all around. with the lyrics, i never find troye to be the type to take it deep or touch on any real issues. for me, he's like gay carly rae jepsen. but i can see that we only have few queer pop stars and the expectations are high, especially with the ones that have potential.
unino Posted October 13, 2023 Posted October 13, 2023 i think i'm going to use this album quite a lot, it just feels really nice to have a really good chill fun pop album that made by gay artist.
TalkThatRihanna Posted October 13, 2023 Posted October 13, 2023 Now that’s how you make a great pop record I literally liked 8/10 songs And I’m sure the other two can grow on me
wish Posted October 13, 2023 Posted October 13, 2023 I enjoyed this way more than I expected. A really pretty album all-around, very soft and easy to listen to (without being super generic) Faves on first listen: Rush, One Of Your Girls, In Your Room, Silly

Nothing about this album is childish in any way... Troye has always had a consistent vision and this album continues to build on that while exploring new sonic soundscapes and does so in such an engaging way. It is by far his most mature work and if you don't see that, its a reflection of where you are in life, not the amazing art that Troye is creating. 10
BeenTheShit Posted October 13, 2023 Posted October 13, 2023 Listened to this album in full while driving earlier and I really enjoyed it!

I wish he was doing that! A lot of the songs really do feel childlike in their confessional diary format. That’s my issue. It’s giving Phoebe Bridgers early halsey vibes. He’s above that. also a lot of the songs just lack hooks… 1 hour ago, ImpressMeMuch said: I see what you mean sonically, and to clarify I do largely agree with you. Totally agree, the sense of fun and wink wink makes that song work. It’s a standout for me. 1
Massive_Teardrop Posted October 13, 2023 Posted October 13, 2023 Haven’t heard the full album yet. Loved One of Your Girls but the next two fell a little slow on first listen gonna try again soon

He’s 28. He should be making more songs like Rush that are for adult gay men not infants. that being said there was enough good in the album to save it from being a disaster. It gets a passing grade but barely…. Silly and honey are good. Time is cute. But still got it is one of the worst songs of the year. Very confusing cause the whole album to me felt very sexual and his most descriptive yet. He's 28 and this feels like his most explorative era yet. I guess it's up to the interpretation 1
justin. Posted October 13, 2023 Posted October 13, 2023 In My Room and Can't Go Back, Baby could have gotten the chop, with Angel Baby replacing one of them. But overall a very solid album! I'm glad I ordered the signed vinyl. The album artwork is iconic!
MaxMartin Posted October 13, 2023 Posted October 13, 2023 I don't think this album is childish at all... We have sexual adult dance pop moments like Rush , Silly , honey or WTTWYA. We can't forget Troye , like as many gay young men (I'm 24) haven't had the opportunity to accept ourselves, live & express our sexuality since early teens like straight people do. I do really connect with cuts such as OOTG , in which we dream having the cute straight sporty jock but realizing we're dragging ourselves for someone that will never love you (hence the sad robot effect on the chorus). There's others like "In my room" where you're in your mid twenties, you've met someone and you suddenly feel like a teenager that's discovering their first love. "Still got it" is heartbreaking and CGBB is a lesson of self love & letting go I would have died for having this album in my teens 1

I think it was offered to him for the album, during the pandemic (he said he received the chorus , and he wrote the verses) but I see why he decided to make it a standalone cause it doesn't match the neither the headspace he was in at the time or the one he's in now.
pinkbowvintage Posted October 13, 2023 Posted October 13, 2023 This album is so lush and gorgeous and the production is exquisite and so creative. Love the lyrics, too. He really did that. No filler either. I already loved Got Me Started (all the detractors can F off) but new faves on first listen include What's The Time Where You Are?, Can't Go Back, Baby (WOW! a masterpiece) and Honey (another gem). I have a feeling this will be a grower for a lot of people as the songs all have a VERY similar sound, it's not bop after bop and it's going to take some time for the melodies to sound distinct and "hit." 1
50thStateofMind Posted October 13, 2023 Posted October 13, 2023 after first listen, One of Your Girls was one of my least favorites...but very strong album overall..enjoyed every song.
ImpressMeMuch Posted October 13, 2023 Posted October 13, 2023 The lack of hooks surprised me. Singles were definitely well chosen. This isn’t my current vibe but I know I’ll come around to love it in the right context.
Darkgalord Posted October 13, 2023 Posted October 13, 2023 This album is so good my god. He never fails to deliver.
Lady Claire Posted October 13, 2023 Posted October 13, 2023 I don't think this album is immature, Troye is going through a natural progression. His first era was all about being shy, loving a boy for the first time, fighting for rights and some sad boy ****... that moment when you just came out and find a whole new world. On Bloom he started to discover himself a lil more and got into the scene, but still very sentimental and a bit scared at times. Now he's going all out with his sexuality, celebrating his queerness and sharing some stories of the current period. That's just who he is and honestly i feel conected to his discog bc we have the same age and went through similar moments at the same time. I feel like i'm being seen somehow... and i'm sure there's a lot of gays that can relate to it, too. Also i think this mostly laid-back/chill pop with hints of alternative and some bangers in between fits perfectly his personality and singing tone. That's why it doesn't feel contrived or that he's trying too hard. He knows his strengths and explore them. 13
Rocket Posted October 13, 2023 Posted October 13, 2023 The way I stanned One Of Your Girls, but the video now has me worshipping it. The same thing happened with Kylie's Things We Do For Love. The power of visuals is real. 5
