I thought the extended version of Rush was going to be on the album... at least... it's not on the Spotify version

In My Room might be his first bad song. I don’t dig this as much as Bloom or In a Dream on my first listen. That’s not to say this isn’t a great album though. I just love those two a bit more.

So close to a home run for me: I wish tracks 5 and 6 had a different production, because the lyrics are quite good and provide some nuance to the album. The arrangements on those tracks are so basic and not fully thought out in my view.

I listened to the album through the lens that it was inspired by Janet Jackson's Damita Jo which is one of my favourite albums of all time: I see what he was going for and he did a good job! I love that he took Janet's album based on lying on the beach and feeling sexual and wrote it from the perspective of a gay man in 2023. In My Room might be my favourite, the groove and call and response synth phrase in the chorus particularly remind me of Janet. Silly and Honey are also very vibrant and fun and continue the SloLove-lite line that Rush set. One Of Your Girls also has a gorgeous production.

I wish he had added a track or two to make it feel like a fuller experience. Overall it's very good.

My ranking:

Spoiler

1. In My Room

2. Honey

3. Silly

4. Rush

5. One Of Your Girls

6. Got Me Started

7. How To Stay With You

8. What's The Time Where You Are?

9. Can't Go Back, Baby

10. Still Got It

can't go back baby is such a winter night song

This feels so one note after the third track... Only exception is Got Me Started which I can't fully enjoy because the sample is annoying. The sax in the last song is cute, and overall the production is really good. But the album falls flat and it was hard to get through despite only being 30 minutes... I enjoyed Bloom much more.

I like the overall vibe of the album, and there are many great elements in the music,

but I have to get used to the often annoying choruses and overuse of vocal effects.

Top 3 so far: What's the Time, One of Your Girls, Still Got It

Rush and Got Me Started are the worst of the bunch imo :skull:

What's The Time deserves single treatment

I'm sorry but it feels boring so far. Nothing gagged me like Bloom or BN did :weeps:

It is unfortunately quite dull after the opening few tracks (save Got Me Started which of course has its own issues).

It’s nicely produced as always and he sounds great though - don’t hate it by any means - but it’s definitely a slight let down based on what we knew and the strength of the visuals/singles.

boring album outside of the singles

album length is also extremely short considering it has 10 tracks

he needs to take more time with his work

it's fine, but I wish he left the bedroom pop/alt-pop sound behind and delivered a full dance-pop project touching multiple house sub-genres. Rush was a fluke. :chick3:

This is ******* fantastic. The production, songwriting, and sound is just such a specific and successful execution of a vision. Anyone bitching rn after a single listen needs to take a nap and re-approach this with new ears bc it’s something special.
