SweetTalker Posted July 12, 2023 Posted July 12, 2023 Scrolling thru Amazon deals, I stumbled upon something that frightened me and made me immediately gag, yet intrigued me enough to look more into it. I present to you, pork brains (with milk gravy) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00FHIAIIE?ref_=pfb_spv01_f0ba84e2c3a02faf186b6253eeb58446&tag=fbcmapboc-us-20&ascsubtag=pfb-BOC-P11-V01-O1-0g2awi-XC9DWC&fbclid=IwAR0l-gJUl0f-WAiys_E-ElrLxBhBNvV9SsvA5gI6L23KPYV-FaZU48UtjYU_aem_AfBcipV7DJcNlSfhMc8wuIz7PfdsenmnolXfxpGPXTiFAfVCkEXRbZ1iJDQsUe8f4BD7jebdE3G1XQePFMQLdGQY Here’s a video of a British lad basically doing an “unboxing” type of video, even cooking the brains with scrambled eggs. So, ATRL, would you like to try this so called “southern delicacy”?

Heldenzeit Posted July 12, 2023 Posted July 12, 2023 I don't eat meat so no, to me the thought of it is gross. 1
Pendulum Posted July 12, 2023 Posted July 12, 2023 Out of a can, no. If they were cooked fresh, yes. Some Americans and Europeans are way too squeamish over offal meats like liver, kidney, tripe, and hearts. They are cheap and delicious if you know how to cook them properly.
thetea Posted July 12, 2023 Posted July 12, 2023 i don't eat pork so i wouldn't eat this but i wouldn't be disgusted or share any negative opinions about others eating it.
ugo Posted July 12, 2023 Posted July 12, 2023 I tried brain once the texture is weird. I wouldn't have it again.

Eating brains can expose you to prions. And prions can’t be killed by any household cooking. Having prions is the worst way to die. So some animals have it worse, like cows.

Taylucifer Posted July 12, 2023 Posted July 12, 2023 i mean aren’t like sausages just brains, organs, etc mushed together? so if you eat sausages, why would you be frightened by that

Archetype Posted July 12, 2023 Posted July 12, 2023 That’s like asking me if I want to eat a can of dirt. No. People ate this stuff because they were too poor to afford more quality cuts, and now it’s just a delicacy for people who think they’re special.

ScorpiosGroove Posted July 12, 2023 Posted July 12, 2023 i ate crocodile meat once and it tasted like weird soggy chicken… i’d imagine this having a similar texture so no ostrich is pretty good tho

You don’t have to be poor to eat brains or other organs like liver, kidneys, stomach, intestines. To me it’s mostly utilizing and using the whole animal after killing it. Plus a lot of organ meat is delicious. I personally did not enjoy brain, I don’t like fatty foods with a “soap” texture. Lobsters were also considered “poor” people food because they are bottom feeders and were served in prisons. Look at them now. Edited July 12, 2023 by Lana Banana
Vixen Eyes Posted July 13, 2023 Posted July 13, 2023 never. i wouldnt even eat cow tongue growing up. plus im mostly dairy free pescatarian for a few years now
ATRL Moderator Bloo Posted July 13, 2023 ATRL Moderator Posted July 13, 2023 I would rather go vegan.
DamianSolo Posted July 14, 2023 Posted July 14, 2023 It's definitely a hard pass for me, but this isn't surprising at all. People eat whatever around here, as it is. If this was on store shelves, I'm sure it'd be moving fairly regularly.
