No I’m too valuable

Yeah recently :cm:

They wanted someone with more experience than me.

Another point is to never EVER trust HR to have your back. Anything you say or do can be used against you to benefit the company.

When we got removed from our office and left in limbo they tried convincing many of us to quit ourselves or find a different lesser role, some caved because they didn't know how long it would last and HR managed to convince them. This left them unable to claim the severance package they deserved later on. Me and many others refused to listen to them and just kept on waiting.

Are you still in ER though?

Speaking of, there was some nurse the other day that was caught sleeping with a patient and the patient actually died while they were doing it.

No but when I started working my boss who was bitch gave me a shit pay upgrade and I served her my resignation literally on that same moment in return. The look on her face alone was worth it.

I've gotten fired for sexual harassment before. :alexz2:

I was working at a restaurant as a server and this younger guy (in his early 20's) and his uncle (who were both gay) came in like once a week on Sundays.  Over the course of time I started chit-chatting with the younger guy every week.  Just smile and talk and nothing else.  I think the gay uncle was jealous, cuz i was between their ages and giving the other one all the attention.  Well one Sunday probably a YEAR later I mentioned that the younger guy was randomly in my dream.  Nothing sexual, just appeared out of nowhere in my dream and that was that.  Well the uncle didn't like that and he accused me of sexual harassment.  Management had to react.  I was on my way out of that job anyways mentally, so i was fine when they said they had to let me go.

i saw the guy at a bar a couple weeks later and he apologized for his uncle's behavior.  I was like "yea i got fired over that" and he was shocked.  Oh well, that was a long time ago.

I never get past the 2 weeks trail :skull:

No, but I have had to fire people. It's something I never got used to doing and it was always awkward, working with people you develop a type of bond with—even if you're not particularly close. But, when corporate tells you someone has to go... :noparty:

No, but I was scared I would be in a previous job. I kept screwing things up and was worried I'd get fired (in hindsight, I don't think I was doing poorly at work, just stressed and too hard on myself). Eventually, I realized that I wasn't gonna be fired from the job since the workplace needed me more than I needed them. I was basically working two different jobs at once and was constantly overworked, so eventually I eventually decided to quit and give my two week notice. The guilt on my managers' faces those last two weeks were glorious.

Yeah, for the first time earlier this year after 5 months because of 'work performance' my performance wasn't addressed, but then again it was a toxic work environment and high turnover. Then I got another job a month later and then they laid me off after my first week because I am overqualified, but the pay was terrible. So their loss.

I haven’t been fired but I have quit 3 jobs now - each about 2 years apart. All 3 I felt ridiculously overworked/burn out, underappreciated, and tired of the toxic work environment. A lot of favoritism, hypocrisy, and excusing of bad behavior if certain managers/partners made a lot of money. That on top of their nearly impossible expectations was enough for me to eventually leave.

Related to OP, throughout the 3 jobs I had in that industry, I witnessed 3 people total get fired. 1 towards beginning of my career and 2 simultaneously at the end. I liked all 3 people so it was really sad. They were treated very coldly on their way out - it was eye opening to witness. You can never trust your employer has your best intentions - always look out for red flags wherever you work. I’ve become way more guarded at work because of what I saw and intolerant of hating my job - I’m here to clock in and out, do a good job & get my check nowadays.

I graduated a year ago and I worked at a firm in my field the first firm I worked at, was literally like this. My co-workers were just unprofessional, but some were nice. The company however said that there were growth opportunities but I learned that question is super broad and if you ask them how growth opportunities are accomplished, then I found out it was based on favoritism and how well you kiss ass. Just do the quitting for me, I felt I wasn't happy there.

no but i almost were.

back when i was in college i worked as a temp in a cosmetic warehouse, packing makeup. one of the managers (a 50 yo woman aka the devil) was so f******* awful and kept seeking out employees out of pure enjoyment.

one time she really got on my nerves so i talked back and left mid shift.

she yelled like a bich she will get me fired, i told her she should stick to drooling and flirting with our truck drivers (i dont blame her tho they were hot and most of them worked with tight gum short and no pants :lakitu:). the married hoe thought she could try me. she couldnt. she never talked to me again until i quit 2 weeks after when my exams started

No, but i’ve been put on a peformance review (6month period) before as a PA. I got assigned to support a leader who had a high turnover of assistants and i knew her history.

Always pointed my way when things went wrong and i always had evidence back/up to put her in het place. I would take a complete different route to work just to avoid running into her on the tube which happend a few times.  I ended up leaving thay company after nearly 5yrs and begged me to stay.

Sorry to hear about your layoffs, I think you just had bad luck.  At least it’s kind of a compliment you got laid off for being “overqualified”. Sounds like you have better options anyway if the pay was terrible. And regarding the first job, I talked to the 2 of my coworkers who were fired afterwards and both said it was shocking at first but in hindsight they were relieved they didn’t have to linger around the toxic work environment anymore. So as much as firings suck sometimes they can be a blessing in disguise.

Lol favoritism was rampant at the companies I worked for, it was kind of disgusting sometimes. They’d play charades that evaluations were this super formal & calculated process but you just knew that some people were promoted over others that made absolutely no sense. What I noticed more than anything was that the (straight) men would kind of create their own little pocket of bros/a fraternity of sorts and stick together, work more together - it was so blatant.

In November 2021 I was fired from my call centre job because I yelled at a customer that was giving me a really hard time. I almost didn't get my unemployment because my shady ass employers were bad mouthing me to the unemployment people. So I basically had to set the record straight there and it also took me almost 4 months to even get my unemployment.

Looking back at it I'm glad I got fired from that place because it was way too stressful and I was in a deep depression back then and was my heaviest as well. Ever since then my mental health had a massive rebound and I lost all the weight I gained while working that job (I stress ate a lot from that job)

Yes in 2016 I was working at a gallery/bookstore in LES for the most terrible woman. I would literally cry on my way into work and get anxiety attacks on the train because of how insane and abusive the environment was

I would come in and she would immediately start cursing me out, literally was told I had to guess what she wanted it was insane. eventually I got fired and refuse to work with French people ever again

right before that I got fired from a Korean restaurant after 1 day working but it was a 10 hour shift where you weren’t allowed to sit down, getting $7 per hour. I can NOT believe

Posted

At my previous job where I tested how much I could stretch the flexible hours (I showed up at work later than how much rock stars could delay a concert), was demotivated by no growth in role or pay grade,...

While old colleagues had the same problems and switched to the competition where they became managers picking the employees. They offered me a chance to switch sides for 1.5k euro per month pay raise. My limited knowledge of the French language blocked me from snatching a 4.5k euro per month deal.

Many colleagues have asked me why I'm not leaving. Some industry veterans (30+ year experience in engineering) compared me to Alan Turing and a place not offering promotion in 10 to 30 years is not a place for someone talented. They were shocked by my ability to just sit somewhere and not moving. WTF is wrong with him?

After enough slacking and messing around they fired me. They cannot write on the paperwork that I'm not suitable for the job, because the government agencies will ask them "Why you keep that employee for 7 years? He must be suitable to last that long in the job.". So they have to write "reorganization" on the paperwork and I have to explain it everywhere that the job content has changed, the job required me doing the things I was not hired for in the beginning.

When the system forced everyone to cover up the actual reason of the firing. Perhaps my previous employer knew that if they fire me, the competition will scoop me up by offering a pay raise and if they don't fire me in the most cordial way, I would have special motivation to haunt them till the end of times by advancing the competition.

Suddenly the COVID lockdowns started in March 2020. Once the first lockdowns were loosened, the old industry veterans call me and ask if I would defect to the competition. After negotiations during economically bleak times I got 1k euro per month pay raise, easier hours, lower workload, doing what I like instead of having to do the things I'm not good at,...

So I'm still in the same city as the home base of my previous employer who controls 2/6 of the territories. I'm in on the "dark side " controlling 4/6 of the territories and having the ambition to control 6/6 of the territories in the city by kicking the other company out of the city. Work motivation can be like a strategy game or stan wars.

What is better than having a good education, degree and work experience? When industry feuds, turf wars,... are being fought and deals are being thrown in the hope to convince someone to switch sides. And revenge is possible by wiping the other company off the map.
