Ohio gathers enough signatures to vote on abortion and legal marijuana in November

Debating how I feel about this being this fall as opposed to next year. At this point the Dems are a lost cause in Ohio statewide so it's probably for the best that this these are stand-alone ballot initiatives.

Nothing would surprise me at this point for a result. Backlash to Dobbs I could picture having died down enough where both lose by a small margin. Maybe an issue split too where marijuana passes and abortion doesn't. A lot of the pro-birth crowd learned their lesson from Kansas.

Shocked the state Republican Party isn't trying to find a way to block either from happening. State referendums have basically been the most effective vehicle for progressive policy at this point.

Yes, voting is important, but at this point, directly voting in referendums wields far more results than hoping some sociopath who has wished to be a senator since the age of 6 won't bow down to corporate donors. :skull:

They are trying to block the abortion referendum, because it’s a constitutional amendment and not a statue like the legalize marijuana one. There’s a special election august 8th to try and get amendments to have to pass by 60% instead of an outright majority.

I don’t know, ever since Missouri legalized weed by over 6 points, I don’t think any state is safe on shooting it down, and Missouri is WAY more red than Ohio

I just realized that it’s medical use of marijuana that’s legal in Ohio so basically same thing.

Recreational legalization at the state level is still much, much, bigger than just having it medically legal. There’s still the risk of somebody being incarcerated and arrested if it’s just “medically” legal.

With recreational, it plummets. And it brings in a lot more $$$$.

I agree with everything you said. Although I feel like marijuana possession  is something cops haven’t enforced in years. It’s just very bad publicity. Then again you need like 300 grams to potentially face incarceration. I buy a 7g jar and turn it into cannabis oil and that can last 2 weeks so yeah i can see why anything above 100 grams would be a little dangerous :lmao:

Cops don't enforce it much for certain communities. Plenty of people of color are locked up for possessing marijuana.
