Cardi because I love that she sticking to rapping and stay true to herself by staying in her rap lane and getting her hits from rap only. Nicki need Pop to survive and fergie?? :ahh:

Times were way different though.

Hip hop was way more mainstream when Cardi debuted.

Highly even doubt Nicki would’ve went Pop if Hip hop was more mainstream when she came out.  It always felt more like a business move to me (which worked, for some time).

It's Nicki by a mile. She is not only the better rapper, she's also the better pop star.

Rap has always been to the forefront, where have you been?

Hip-hop was never dominating H100 like it did when Cardi debuted.  Especially in comparison to Nicki era.

Had she not went Pop, she would’ve been stuck on the chitlin circuit with the rest of female rappers that never crossed over.  :rip:

I think after SuperBass smashed randomly as a bonus track it made commercial sense to go the pop rap route at that time. I think she did a good job of balancing both, I just stopped being a fan when she tied the knot and procreated with the sex offender, but I definitely enjoyed the Roman Reloaded era it was so messy but at the time it worked.

I agree but I would argue that while rap was huge then female rap definitely went to **** in the mid 2000’s and didn’t pick up again for a while. Female rap from 1995-2005 was pretty amazing but Missy disappeared due to illness, Foxy Brown lost her hearing, Lil Kim went to jail and back then it wasn’t good for her career like it was for JT. Eve stopped after going semi pop with Tambourine and flopping hard. So many female rappers and RnB stars were shelved during that era to the point where they gave up. Nicki definitely swooped in at a time where there really wasn’t as much established female competition, and tbh I think she really exploited that and made it part of her brand, it’s easy to be the best when the competition has been taken out.

Now the competition for female rap is insane and you can tell she is hating it. She collabs with female rappers when they’re up and coming like Madonna does with artists to stay current and then when they get big enough to be successful on their own Nicki gets threatened by that and loses her **** when she really doesn’t need to and it’s not a good look. It’s a shame because she is her own worst enemy imo.
