YT ads are overkill, music videos are dead, and people are using Spotify or Apple Music…

Youtube for non-music videos seems to be as strong as ever. It's just music videos that are failing. I think the amount of adverts on there is just unbearable now (it's OK to have a minute of adverts for each 30 minute video, but for each 3 minute song it's just infuriating), also the algorithm for music videos is completely useless now too, 10 years ago it used to be so much fun just to put on Youtube and see what gets autoplayed or recommended. Now all it does is keeps feeding you songs you've listened to earlier.

It used to be so normal to use Youtube for music when socialising. You could choose your songs, or if you were distracted it would just choose things by itself. And adverts were so rare you hardly noticed it. Now you HAVE to keep interfering with it because it will just go in a circle of 5 songs if you don't, and being at a party with adverts coming on every few minutes is abrupt and ruins the vibe. If you're going to pay, you might as well pay for a service with a good algorithm.

Flowers & Kill Bill feel like the only songs that have been moments in pop culture this entire year so far, KB certainly not on YT but on everything else in America (unless w/ SOS in general), Flowers literally on all fronts. Flowers is definitely going down as the defining song of 2023.

Calm Down and Anti-Hero??

I am curious to see Youtube Music numbers; Music consumption is shifting thanks to streaming. People used to have to play a video to hear a song but now they don't need to. Plus, YT ads are a bit much.

YouTube Music numbers are tragic.

Flowers - 26 million

Boy’s a Liar Pt 2 - 29 million

Die For You Remix - 26 million

You get the idea :deadbanana:

Can we talk about how Dua paid ad to inflate views for her new video for an entire month and then the views plummeted overnight when they pulled the ad? This girl doesn't have any organic hits.

Over a month?? ***** where?? She had the normal 2 weeks of support like all big artist does

Currently getting a daily 300k

We can compare this to Taylor Swift Karma it was released 24 hours after DTN & despite Taylor being currently the biggest artist the views are not even close to Dua, Taylor also used support the 1st 2 weeks

Google just ****** themselves over when it came to music streaming when it started to take off.

They created a separate service with Google Play Music, then killed that off and replaced it with YTM.

They should’ve just made audio streaming as part of YT from the start. :gaycat5:

The video for her new song was getting over 2M daily views for two weeks non-stop and out of nowhere it plummeted and started to get only 300-400k views, that's clearly payola and don't even try to embarrass yourself trying to defend her, she's the only one to do that, not to mention her usual payola on radio and Spotify and yet the song flopped the same way she's been flopping for over a year, even though she's funded by Dr Luke behind the scenes. It's a preview of the inevitable commercial downfall of her next album and it's going to be fun to watch up close.

And now spotify wants music videos too - YT days are mighty numbered.
