Bicassie Posted June 30, 2023 Posted June 30, 2023 the clickbait title…this is about assisted suicide
Cruel Summer Posted June 30, 2023 Posted June 30, 2023 Framing this issue the way you do in your title - and how the NY Post headline does - seems concerningly alarmist. While we obviously need to strive for a system that can care for those with these conditions and experiences, and while the assisted suicide process needs rigorous standards, it's not as if anyone is going out of their way to kill these people. 1
LustSpell Posted June 30, 2023 Posted June 30, 2023 (edited) Read the article next time..? Quote Several Dutch citizens who had autism or other intellectual disabilities have died by physician-assisted suicide in recent years after doctors determined their afflictions were untreatable obstacles to a normal life, researchers found. Patients must meet strict requirements including suffering from an incurable illness that causes “unbearable” physical or mental anguish to be eligible for euthanasia — but doctors ultimately decide who qualifies. While suicide should be prevented at most costs, this isn't really an issue. Someone who is clearly suffering doesn't need to be in daily pain if they don't want to be Edited June 30, 2023 by LustSpell

Someone who is clearly suffering doesn't need to be in daily pain if they don't want to be Thank you for the additional context. I honestly am in favor of well-informed consensual euthanasia. There is no reason someone should be forced to continue living if they truly, truly have no light at the end of a tunnel.
May Posted June 30, 2023 Posted June 30, 2023 i have autism and id love to be euthanised, i don’t get the issue ?

Many people will support someone being put down who has untreatable cancer. Agreeing to kill someone because they’re autistic or mentally disabled is something most people will not agree with.
