Gossip_Boy Posted July 21, 2023 Posted July 21, 2023 I was rooting for it to do well solely because of Xolo, but this is their least surprising flop to date. It was DOA. It’ll probably do well in Brazil thanks to the female lead but I doubt that’ll be enough to push it to break even point.
BNF91 Posted July 21, 2023 Posted July 21, 2023 Early Thursday previews estimate of $19.5M. On top of that, there is over $60M in additional presales for the weekend. Only Endgame, Infinity War, No Way Home and Doctor Strange 2 have had bigger weekend presales in recent years. 1

TheDreamer Posted July 21, 2023 Posted July 21, 2023 ‘Barbie’ & ‘Oppenheimer’ Box Office Mania Begins: Doll Eyes Around $20M, Nolan Epic $9M In Previews Quote EXCLUSIVE: The box office event of the year which has Warner Bros. mass female attraction, Barbie, and Universal’s Christopher Nolan directed, Oppenheimer, has officially fired off its confetti guns with the movies seeing respectively an estimated $20M and $9M+ from their previews. Again, these numbers could fluctuate by morning. Even if Barbie falls short of $20M, she’s bound to post the best previews of this summer; Disney’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 having grossed $17.5M on its Thursday night (which included $400K Imax showtimes on Wednesday). The Greta Gerwig directed feature take on the Mattel doll has previews which will include the Wednesday “Barbie Blowout Parties” at 500 sites as well as money from showtimes which began tonight at 3,400 locations at 3PM. The R-rated 3-hour Oppenheimer started showtimes today at 5PM. Barbie will play in 4,200 theaters by Friday, while Oppenheimer, juiced by Imax, will count 3,600 theaters. OMG they're both winning your honor 2

Is the modest profit in the room with us? "the film needs to make around $100 million domestically and $300 million globally to break even." https://variety.com/2020/film/box-office/birds-of-prey-box-office-disappoints-1203498018/ 3

ALA Posted July 21, 2023 Posted July 21, 2023 Quality and talent truly won so happy it happened to 2 films that are actually very good

Ms. Togekiss Posted July 21, 2023 Posted July 21, 2023 Both movies were EXCELLENT I might go and rewatch them a couple more times
Gossip_Boy Posted July 21, 2023 Posted July 21, 2023 Excellent numbers for both (could see them going a bit higher in finals). This summer has been so **** when it comes to box office, this weekend is going to feel like a breath of fresh air lol.
Gorjesspazze9 Posted July 21, 2023 Posted July 21, 2023 I just realized this is the entire opening weekend
Horizon Flame Posted July 21, 2023 Posted July 21, 2023 James Gunn was the last person WB wanted. All their other choices said no. They should be concentrating on television. Even The Batman was garbage. It’s the same old sh*t. And now Gunn wants to do Superman? And let’s not pretend Marvel is doing any better. The only way for any of these IPs to work is by cashing in on nostalgia. People are not interested in the revolving door of new actors turning out the same boring garbage. Other than that, people are sick of comic book movies. The fact that they thought spinning off The Penguin into a show is laughable. It’s amazing how much money they’ve wasted. Batgirl probably would have been a good movie and it was made for HBO Max. They should concentrate on doing that. Spending hundreds of millions on films for the big screen is not paying off, especially overseas. 2 1
DoctorIce Posted July 21, 2023 Posted July 21, 2023 Not Barbie wiping the floor with a certain crappy spandex and green screen, Happy Meal toy-oriented franchise. Might have to see it after all to support a good cause. 1
