Saintlor Posted August 6, 2023 Posted August 6, 2023 How is this a great achievement? It had the biggest marketing campaign of recent years and was pushed everywhere on social media Basically the movie equivalent from a song charting well from Spotify autoplay and radio payola 29
Dialamba Posted August 6, 2023 Posted August 6, 2023 (edited) Movie of the decade. 9 minutes ago, Saintlor said: How is this a great achievement? A movie is supposed to be massively promoted. The marketing budget for Barbie cost over 150M USD which is basically the same as the biggest movies ever. Kinda crazy to act it’s not impressive because y’all always want things to be organic!!! That’s not how it works We aren’t talking about a song it’s a movie Edited August 6, 2023 by Dialamba 4

This is the equivalent of a new Taylor song in 2014 so I dunno why you're acting like it's a bad thing.

That’s not how it works We aren’t talking about a song it’s a movie I mean it's a majorly, majorly promoted movie about a brand that's very well known and a part of so many people's lives It really would be shocking if the film didn't smash It's not like it's noteworthy that the Mario movie (which had less promo but a lot) smashed too Edited August 6, 2023 by Saintlor 1 7

D_Man3379 Posted August 6, 2023 Posted August 6, 2023 ATRL’s reaction to the first look of this movie is beyond funny in hindsight. An unstoppable force.
Bosque Posted August 6, 2023 Posted August 6, 2023 The movie is a smashing success and definitely not just because of the marketing plenty of other movies with the same marketing budget such as Indiana Jones and Flash flopped to the high heavens this year. Plus it has been holding amazingly well week to week, which shows that it’s a real cultural phenomenon (all the while actors aren’t even allowed to promote it while on strike), and has great word of mouth. People really need to let the marketing narrative go 3
vale9001 Posted August 6, 2023 Posted August 6, 2023 (edited) this is huge for Hoollywood. I mean if you exclude a couple of disney live action remakes (so movies already popular) it's insane to make so many money with what basically is a pure comedy. Not a big action flick. Every movie post Lord of the rings in Hollywood has been so popular couldn't escape from the formula of the grand scale movie with big battles and a lot of actions + villain formula. No one can be surprised it's an hit but if you think every barbie movie you make whatever is makes 1.5B dollar cause it's just that wow you should go to los angeles and became an hollywood producer too. If it's so easy to make movies . A barbie movie if not a great movie, someone people are now perceiving as smart, sublte or meta and everything so they are curious to see could have been a bad movie with just 300M dollars or 400 like that pokemon movie.
Popboi. Posted August 6, 2023 Posted August 6, 2023 So… how likely is 1.5 billion and 700 million looking for Barbie and Oppenheimer
