Is "Lover" the "Come On Over" of the decade?

"Come On Over" was a 1997 album that initially debuted at #2 with 172k copies in November 1997.  It would go on to sell 20M in the USA, and received its highest sales in its 110th week during Christmas 1999 when it sold 355,000 copies, over 2 years after its release.

Come On Over - Wikipedia

"Lover" debuted at #1 in August 2019, and is currently charting at #10 in its 200th week - something we really haven't seen since "Come On Over" in the sense that an album that debuted high and still had massive longevity years later.

Lover (album) - Wikipedia

Lover is her "You're Still the One"

"You Need to Calm Down" is her "Man I Feel Like a Woman"

ME! is her "That Don't Impress Me Much"

She still needs her "From This Moment" though

No. Come on Over had 12 fire songs served as singles.

Lover had 3 duds and 2 fire songs as singles (and one of the good ones was 3 years late).

But it’s cute that you think Lover should even be in the same conversation :gaycat4:

Come On Over is actually a good and consistent album so no by default!

The setup

Isn't Come On Over the best selling female studio album ever or at least close to it

Lover isn't even the best selling female album of 2019

When We All... - 15,766,000

Lover - 11,733,000

Let's see how long Lover can sustain its momentum.

The nerve of comparing Shania’s third-best diamond album to Taylor’s career low.

Come On Over was blocked from debuting at #1? :skull:

Proof that this accolade really doesn’t mean much in the end.

No. Come On Over was next-level massive, so it seems (I was a fetus). I know every single off that album by heart just because they were all so big when I was young.

Lover has similarities with its success but overall, Lover is her weakest album commercially and sonically :bam:

Yes it debuted at #2 with 172k sales and then stayed at #2 the following week with only a -1% drop in sales to 170k - both were behind different debuts, truly unlucky

Imagine comparing the mediocrity of Taylor Swift's music to Shania Twain :biblio:

I wanted to joke about the parallels of their singles, Shania has 12 per wikipedia. Not worth it.

You can’t spell Lover without Over!

Lover has some good songs but NO. Come On Over is fillerless, iconic, better, etc.

This is actually one of the most disgusting things I’ve ever read on this site.

No, but it's still insanely impressive how huge Lover has become. Does anyone know where it'll end up in her discography? Success-wise, I mean.
