Sannie Posted June 28, 2023 Posted June 28, 2023 I am confusion. How can the city force companies to charge for something? Seems kind of weird to me.
ICLDXU4HS Posted June 28, 2023 Posted June 28, 2023 The majority of posts in here are giving "tell me you're American without telling me you're American". And this is why I'm not on board with the green parties' shenenigans over here in Europe because as long as the rest of the world wants to act like big babies throwing temper tantrums even over small stuff like this that's always been normal here I don't care about making greater sacrifices in my life.

This is basically incentivizing companies/consumers to reduce this practise. The purpose isn't to make money out of it, it's to make it less desirable for people to get/buy them. And why would you want to do this? Because it makes less pollution and less food waste. If you need to ask for or buy something, then it becomes less desirable. If you also pay for something, there's less incentive to not use it and throw it on the floor, for example. If you're not given something for free, then you usually don't get it. If a company gets fined for doing something, they will stop doing it. See the logic? This is mainly aimed at companies, since they are the number 1 reason people expect to get plastic utensils with their food (I guess. I'm not american). As soon as companies start educating consumers about this, it makes the transition for consumers a lot easier and natural (which is the point). If companies aren't incentivized to do it, then nothing would change. This is how it works in Europe. Supermarkets charge for plastic bags (and possibily get fined for it), and the purpose is to reduce plastic and make people bring their own re-usable bags. People just adapt to it. It took time, but now basically no one asks for plastic bags anymore at the cashier. I remember automatically getting ketchup on every order of Burger King. Now, I actually need to specify the amount of ketchup I want or they won't give it to me. Edited June 28, 2023 by magazine
Just a Gay on ATRL Posted July 8, 2023 Posted July 8, 2023 I totally support this - I always end up throwing this extra stuff out without using it anyway because I didn't ask for it in the first place - I use my own utensils and condiments. Whenever I get take-out/delivery I am appalled by the amount of waste for literally just a sandwich and fries. I have the feeling the cumulative amount of waste from take-out is horrifying.
banterfly Posted July 8, 2023 Posted July 8, 2023 This is how it should be. Eliminate unnecessary plastics!
