Taylor got more songs in the top 10 on Midnights release week than Britney did between 1999 and 2011

That's because Taylor had the benefit of streaming, while Britney didn't have Spotify back in the day and only released singles traditionally.

She actually didn't even release them traditionally; most of her hits didn't get physical releases. Her chart run is entirely based on airplay, stunted by a blacklist during her prime

Imagine the numbers Britney would have had if streaming was a thing back in 1999-2003.

My faves like Ellie Goulding and Florence + the Machine have all had a longer career than the Beatles at this point, so according to your logic they are also bigger than The Beatles!

Imagine sneering and dismissing albums selling upwards of 20 million+ physically.

Britney was always the topic of conversation. Everyone knew her hated or not, so her.

The way this website constantly downplays Britney's legacy and success is quite maddening sometimes. I've said before that if Spotify existed in 1998/99, Britney's stats would far overshadow Taylor and lots of others. Taylor is indeed popular and always sells well and does well on streaming, but it's not comparable to what Britney was selling as a teenager in 1999. Nobody was just selling 12 million albums in a calendar year like it was nothing, even in those days when sales were much higher, and especially not 17 year olds. Britney also had career setbacks and personal difficulties Taylor had the luxury of avoiding - which makes comparisons like these rather unfair and unbalanced.

wait why was Tastes Like You SOTY….

OT: not only has taylor’s career outlasted the Beatles, but her success has grown even more so after two so called peaks, both sonically and commercially. this is unprecedented in the industry. can any of her contemporaries match her as of now?

And pure while the prices were $20 ($36 today) and people had to physically leave their house and camp out at stores. Without the help of free streaming, a million releases, re recordings, the current vinyl trend, huge competition, and so on.

This, taylor is loved today while Britney was scrutinized for every single thing. This weird obsession still is around today present on this very board where only Britney gets penalized for things others do as well

Also, you have to consider Britney's image change after Oops I Did it Again.

Why is that not being discussed?

The way some people conveniently leave out important reasons as to why certain things happened.

:skull:

Typical.
