Enrique523 Posted June 25, 2023 Posted June 25, 2023 (edited) So we all know Britney was a massive pop phenomenon during the beginning of her career, her first two albums sold massively and she was essentially inescapable. Her songs were everywhere and everyone was talking about her one way or another. As for Taylor, she got a massive commercial resurgence first with Midnights, which gave her a massive hit with Anti-Hero, and then the Eras tour boosted her entire discography in a way no one expected, including hardcore Swifties. Cruel Summer is about to explode and her whole discography is being massively streamed all over the place, she's on everyone's lips no matter if you like her or not. She's at the absolute peak of her career and will certainly be the most streamed artist of the year, including male artists. Who do you think is the biggest phenomenon? Britney at her beginnings or Taylor during Midnights/Eras tour? Discuss. Edited June 25, 2023 by Enrique523 2 3
Breakdown Posted June 25, 2023 Posted June 25, 2023 Taylor, she's respected for her talent by a lot of people and her being a smart business woman. Britney has never been respected or was responsible for her success. 4 5
Axelios Posted June 25, 2023 Posted June 25, 2023 Taylor, Britney was just a teen pop phenomena like a BTS with less longevity at the time 1 1 1
byzantium Posted June 25, 2023 Posted June 25, 2023 Celine 1996-1998 >>> every other MPG peak. For the original question, we have lost the monoculture largely in 2023. As a result people are able to more or less pick an choose what they engage with. People that want to engage with Taylor’s art can dive into that whole world and people who care less can basically ignore it all. This was not the case for Britney. Any big star was pushed in front of everyone regardless of whether they wanted to engage. Thus I think Taylor’s peak is able to have more commercial success without flying to close to the sun while Britney peak involved more cultural omnipresence. 7 1
Klein Posted June 25, 2023 Posted June 25, 2023 I'd say it's pretty equal tbh. Taylor is moving more units over 2022-2023 than Britney over 1999-2000, but she also has a much bigger discography in 2022-2023 than Britney in 1999-2000, so it's """"easier"""" to accumulate more total units. That said, Taylor's peak is 17 years into her career which makes it incredibly impressive. For that, I'd give her the edge. 4
Rev8 Posted June 25, 2023 Posted June 25, 2023 Here started the Britney vs Everyone threads again first Katy, now Taylor who is next? 1 1
style17 Posted June 25, 2023 Posted June 25, 2023 (edited) the eras tour alone proves its Taylor MANIA its actually a little annoying as an earlier fan… having to fight these new cupcakes and locals for tickets and having everyone suddenly claim theyre a taylor stan. girl bye! FolkLover1989 Posted June 25, 2023 Posted June 25, 2023 The fact Taylor 17 yrs into career can be compared with one of the biggest pop artist at peak and beginning of their career is already insane 7

Any big star was pushed in front of everyone regardless of whether they wanted to engage. I came to say this! I didn’t live Britney’s peak but I feel like even in 2008 / 2009 she felt more inescapable than Taylor is rn, not because she was successful like Taylor is rn but because it was a different era. Same can be said for Beyoncé, Gaga, Katy, Rihanna, Adele… even Taylor in the 1989 era actually. 1
DamianSolo Posted June 25, 2023 Posted June 25, 2023 Britney was a literal phenomenon during that time. Her. 2

You can’t compare an established artist with +15 years of career touring power with someone who just debuted tho. Edited June 25, 2023 by k4rmabutterfly
Proseductice Posted June 25, 2023 Posted June 25, 2023 The obsession with comparing Britney and Taylor. You guys aren’t bored yet? OT: Both successful women in their own ways regardless of the decade. History can’t be erased for either.
leyaris11 Posted June 25, 2023 Posted June 25, 2023 As a whole pop-star package, Britney easily wins. She had it all: Beauty, charisma, good music, sale, tour, endorsement deal... 10 minutes ago, Rev8 said: Here started the Britney vs Everyone threads again first Katy, now Taylor who is next? And they said she is not relevant and can't tour the stadium. The hater will be the first get in line for her tours.

BGood2Me Posted June 25, 2023 Posted June 25, 2023 Taylor is bigger overall than Britney (sales), but 99-2004 in terms of pop cultural impact is massive.

Not everyone is able to have such a insane impact with their tour as Taylor is having right now with her's. If that was the case it would've already happened for other female artists in recent years. 1
GivingCher Posted June 25, 2023 Posted June 25, 2023 Britney. I'm a much bigger fan of Taylor but I don't think it's even possible given the way culture has changed for someone to reach the peak Britney was at in 1999-2000 in the current day. 1
