One thing I know about her she will never stop doing music, she will find a way to release music even if it’s not her release (just like Roc Nation blocked her from releasing album).

Does this sample another song? It sounds so familiar!

But to be fair, I always thought Natalie Don't was sampling another song too

I hear you, but I've always had a slight issue with this stance. "X artist can do whatever they want. Enjoy the music"

I've followed enough artists, campaigns, and career trajectories over time to know that there is a direct relationship between commercial success and the artist's long-term viability of even releasing music.

So many mid-tier and (dare I say) flop artists ultimately cease releasing music, stick to other ventures, and end up with years of musical silence. Why? Because there has to be a commercial return on investment. Not just for any label, but also for the artist (e.g. pouring in time, money, connections, etc ought to have some kind of ROI to make it worth it).

In Rita's case, pouring her all into music has to have an end-goal result that makes it worthwhile. So, if (as has been the case) she can't get a hit single, then decent album sales and a tour are a must to justify the investment of time and $$$.

If it gets to a point where it's flop singles, flop album sales, and no tour, it'll beg the question of "what is the actual point?". Given how much she makes from other stuff, I legit think this is a question she's probably pondering now already.

Have seen time in and time out: after realizing the music isn't moving the needle, the artist goes into TV or some other venture and fans are screaming in confusion as to why there's "no album". The unavoidable answer is because it's NOT just about the music. Never was and never will be. It's the music...business. "Business" being the key term.

Really rooting for Rita and one thing is for sure: she hustles hard. So even if the album flops and she's deterred from doing another anytime soon, then I hope she can keep her musical flame burning with DJ collabs etc.

I agree. Just to add things here she talked about the future on her YouTube livestream and she said that she's going straight to the studio once the album is out because she's recording another one. Rita's been all over the place but we're on crazy times with the writers (and possibly the upcoming actors) strike so it's better for her to keep the music coming.

Also it's not the first time her music underperforms, and when she was flopping hard like this she even had label issues on the middle of it. As you mentioned, we know she's a hustler so yeah I can clearly see her moving into collaborations and this new project once You & I drops especially because of the business and how the mainstream media gigs (aka American entertainment industry) are on a messy place rn.

Really interesting to hear she's going back into the studio so quickly.

I'd be legitimately shocked if she's going back in with a view of releasing indie again on BMG. Maybe she has verbal assurances of another major label deal or distribution partnership elsewhere.

The You & I "era" (if we can even really call it that) proves that BMG simply isn't the right fit. And it's not their fault or hers.

BMG's generally album-first model works for artists with big core / loyal bases like Kylie (who will buy every configuration going to ensure a #1 debut and deliver big profitability). Rita has always been more of a singles artist with a GP following.

For the age and stage she is in, BMG probably "felt" like the right partner on paper as she looks to mature/evolve her output (and reap the benefit of cultivating a slightly older audience e.g. album sales, tour tickets because they have more disposable $$$). But looking at her situation from an aerial view, if a prospective label doesn't have the ability to ensure she's on the big streaming playlists and all over radio then there really is no point.

The likely issue now and moving forward will be, no major label will want in with her unless it's a 360 deal. They only do away with that model for mega-sellers whose numbers are so big they'll still make money from them anyway. With all of Rita's $$$ coming from TV, hosting, brand deals, she won't want to do that. Hence, another reason why a BMG probably felt like the right move.

I really dunno, come to think about it. Just wishing her the best.

This is the best song she has released in years. Hope it'll be a cute hit for Rita.

She hasn’t exactly had a great time in the major label system so I don’t really see why she’d want to go back into it. Yes, there’s the big machine that is kind of needed for an artist without a solid fanbase. But at the same time, we’re in a different landscape. You don’t need a major label to make a song blow up on TikTok. I mean that’s the advice major labels are giving people at this point anyway. Yes, Kylie has a solid fanbase that buys her music, but she’s still having her biggest hit in almost a decade by a huge landslide. That’s not down to her fanbase.

Ultimately, Rita’s team has always been good at getting her brand and TV deals, but terrible at managing her music career. She desperately needs a new team competent in that department. And that would help offset not having a major.

you have to know that there's a version of the song that has a very EDM formulation.
The lyrics are the same, but the presence of the EDM formula gives that little push, but at the same time the released one is slightly better (even if the EDM one has more violins in the end and in the middle).

I would love to hear that version someday

Tbh i’m happy with her on BMG. If she was still under a major label probably the album wouldn’t have a release date still :deadbanana2:

Of course being indie kinda makes limited her options in terms of exposure and promotion but it’s good for the fans since she’ll release music more often.

I would rather have more music than charts

It’s precisely this. She has control now so her output is up to her (and her team tho unfortunately). It’s not at all out of the realm of possibility she could have something catch on via TikTok.

Objectively a little lazy but this kinda clicked way more than Praising You , bop :clap3:

To be fair YOLM went viral for a week during Valentine's Day this year, she pulled 1m global streams daily on Spotify back then (and yes I know Padam Padam is a hit but it is a bigger peak than what Kylie is doing rn even though it lasted for a few days) so who knows... With TikTok it's hard to predict what wil catch or not and when it will happen. After all it took 7 years to the GP really notice Poison.

Out of the three singles, this is the best one by miles. I should've been the lead.

They playlisted the album version (which is not out) instead of the single/edit version :skull:

This song sounds good!! It reminds me so much of another song... I don't know which one. I see there's a YouTube video here, but can't watch it at work.
