Bears01 Posted June 23, 2023 Posted June 23, 2023 After arguably the worst move of his presidency by stabbing striking workers in the back, credit where credit is due, he came through in the long end. Credit to Bernie Sanders too
byzantium Posted June 23, 2023 Posted June 23, 2023 I’m actually genuinely impressed with the effectiveness of his administration. Against many odds and 50 votes in the senate per se against him, his administration has actually done a lot. 2

Communion Posted June 23, 2023 Posted June 23, 2023 I hope the vagueness of the press release isn't intentional so I'll be the one to ask - did they get the amount of sick days they had demanded? The strike wasn't about sick leave as a whole - the employers wanted to undercut how many sick leave days the employees wanted. Did they get the original number of sick days they asked for?

And yes, for the Europeans reading, many industries have been allowed by our politicians to not give any sick days. If you're sick and miss work, you're basically **** out of luck. I wonder how many Europeans would find Biden a good president if forced to live in the same conditions as your average American. Edited June 23, 2023 by Communion
ATRL Administrator Ryan Posted June 23, 2023 ATRL Administrator Posted June 23, 2023 As a union executive for my industry I just want to stay that if their contracts have a parity clause, by giving the IBEW the sick days, it opens up the other unions to get the same thing.

I think it's fair to say none of our presidents were ever anywhere near good enough, but I will commend the Biden admin for doing the absolute bare minimum to at least get things moving. Still beyond embarrassing that rail workers aren't uniformly given at least one week of paid sick days, especially considering how critical a functional rail system is and its caretakers are to the US economy.
