Missing Titanic Submarine Megathread | All Passengers Presumed Dead

This has been posted a couple times already, but if you haven't seen it yet, check it out: https://neal.fun/deep-sea/

If you go down to where the Titanic is, just below it is a fish with literal antifreeze proteins to keep it from freezing solid. If they're stuck that low with no power for heat, then they're probably frozen to death, if nothing else.

Just scrolling through this website is stressing me out. How deep the ocean is, has always stressed me out.

Even thought I want the best result possible, It’s clear that they’re gone. It’s a terrible result but the only realistic one.

It’s been too long. I wouldn’t be surprised if they just gave up and opened up the hatch and let themselves perish or they probably perished after they got lost.

This was such a dumb decision. I just read all the trial runs the submarine had and how all of them failed in some way :doc:

Oh and the "I wonder which person they cooked?" posts? Deranged. Get some damn help.

From what I read, their submarine can only be opened from the outside.

So unfortunately, they had to perish inside it. They literally have no choice :shakeno:

Yeah I think the celebratory attitude of the deaths of these people is certainly uncouth. They don't deserve to die just because of their wealths. Or because to the people mocking them online, the idea of paying $250k to do this type of thing is seen as stupid.

But the rocked sentiments regarding the amount of airtime and resources this story has received, in comparison to the amount of airtime and resources that have been put in to saving the lives of way more migrants trying to flee their countries just to be able to have some basic human rights over the same amount of time, is frustrating.

I hope at least in the coming days there will be able to be some sort of closure for the families.

thousands of refugees who are fleeing war, famine or trying to get medical treatment etc

These takes are so tired, like were y'all at any point on atrl posting about these topics? This news story has captured people's imagination because of the bizzare nature of it.

If you want to talk and bring attention to all the other suffering of the world, you should be doing so without prompt of 5 rich people being trapped undersea :rip:

Reeks of immature virtue signalling

Oh, mess. I must’ve misread. I thought it could  only be opened from the inside. The ocean gives me such anxiety and I imagined how it must’ve been to be trapped with absolutely no way out and it made my heart race :jonny: I’d honestly would’ve just want to be put out of my misery :jonny:

Alright this situation has gotten really uncomfortable to me.

I am as anti-rich as they come but some of the glee - I'm not talking about memes, memes are generally a staple in our world - but like Oxygen counters... too much.

This is a horrible way to die. I think we can acknowledge that WITHOUT feeling "sorry" for billionaires. I get the "win stupid prizes" part of it all, but people dooming themselves /still/ evokes some degree of pity, if not for the preventability, then for the outcome.

What I will agree with though is that if we weren't so normalized re: stories of migrants sinking by the dozens, and that if even 1% of the resources spent on this were dedicated to helping them...well.

But there's not much correlation between the two. These 5 wealthy people dying in this awful way accomplishes nothing for the welfare of countless migrants fleeing war on stacked boats. And the fallout for this is going to fixate on making billionaire adventurism safer, none of which will even remotely benefit people like migrants on boats.

All it poignantly reminds us is that as humans, we will forever be at the mercy of the elements.

It's over now. RIP to the victims. For the record, I think it's in bad taste to celebrate it and y'all are not cute for that

If nothing else I hope this can be a lesson for the hubris of the ultra-rich. I don't want to see similar stories of people disappearing in space etc in the coming decades

You have got to be kidding me

There are so many red flags about this, i can't believe people pay that much and enter this thing voluntarily.

If they haven't survived, i hope they've died fast and without feeling any pain.

I found this video of a vlogger who went to one of the tours last year. It's in Spanish but you can get a decent idea of what the video is about through YouTube's auto-generated English translations. The way the vlogger contemplated at the beginning about how he could very well die in the submersible :mazen: at least his tour ended up okay.

If they don’t find it within the next let’s say 24hours will they call off the rescue? Or will they keep searching for it like they did with the missing plane?

They will likely continue the search for a while to retrieve the submersible and more importantly the victims inside. It seems extremely unlikely that they will survive at this point.

To go through that just to peek out that little window. No thanks.

I think there's enough invested interest to search a little long and try and understand what happened.
