What do we think about "Hyperballad"?

Personally, it took me some time to fully appreciate 'Post'. Don't get me wrong, I have always considered it a really strong pop album, it's beyond well executed, it's fascinating as a pop project as a whole. However, I must admit that it wasn't instant to me to click with all the songs. "Hyperballad" was always some sort of highlight, but that didn't necessarily mean it was one of my favorite Björk songs.

That might change today.

Out of the sudden, I started thinking into this track while starting to walk in a boulevard, truly crowded, noisy, etc. I decided to well... it felt right to me to play this song. Put my headphones and it started. Damn, it hadn't clicked so well to me till today, it was such AN UNIQUE EXPERIENCE. All the building up, the production is mesmerizing, and my God, the outro is simply breathtaking. I swear I felt I transcended to another dimension and wasn't even on Earth with that bunch of people around me.

I go through all this
Before you wake up
So I can feel happier
To be safe up here wichuuuu

I geniunely did not want that MUSICAL JOURNEY to end, when that occurs all I can say is: brilliant!

Do we think "Hyperballad" is one of the best pop songs of all-time?

Hyper-ballad is THE song. The pinnacle of pop music IMO. I show it (in multiple versions!) to literally every person in my life who expresses any interest in hearing more Björk :jonny2:

It just does something that no other song I've ever heard does. I want to say something like "it still sounds fresh today!" but that's just a lie, it still sounds ahead of our time today.

At the risk of sounding hyperbolic, I see Björk as the greatest creator in pop music, the greatest mind with the most awe-inspiring ideas. In a few years I've gone from my first curious plays of songs like Jóga to actually appreciating whatever the hell is going on with Ancestors. I've cried to Stonemilker realizing how it actually feels like what I feel most days, I've drunk myself into a stupor with Unravel on repeat, I've imagined entire worlds to entire albums like Vespertine and simple tracks like The Anchor Song. I ******* love Björk - so much my boyfriend hates it because he still can't deal with her vocal idiosyncrasies and my friends groan whenever I have a chance to put her on in the car.

I still think Hyperballad is the single moment where she's at her best. It's just so pure, so perfect, every note and lyric, and it captures a feeling that I don't know can be captured any other way. And actually, what got me into it at first was the Brodsky Quartet version on Telegram. I've never been hit in such a full force, immediate way as the first time I heard that track and every time I've heard it since. Talk about transcending - it's out of body every time.

I'm a notorious Post hater but Hyperballad is still one of her best songs (so is army of me). It's just so good! I never get tired of it.

It's good, but I probably wouldn't put it in my top 10 or even 20 Björk songs personally.

its sosososososososo beautiful IMO there's nothing that could be added to or taken away from it to make it better. creates such a unique feeling <3

It's such a sad song about the inability to feel like your genuine self but communicated through the eyes of someone speaking so openly through such a simple and childlike sense of exploration and wonder. It's really one of her best pop songs. She's become so esoteric and academic as of late, I find it hard to connect to any of her recent work. But her first few albums have cemented such a unique footprint as actual pop albums that defy traditional production trends; it's really such a treat of a soundscape.
