It’s different for everybody but for me if I was doing this challenge I would probably look at my favourite artists and my favourite songs and see if there is anything that I can work with using their work as the starting point. I think those people naturally inspire us anyway, and either sampling or writing a sequel to one of their songs can just be another form of that inspiration. And still, even though we are taking inspiration from others in this challenge, what you write can definitely still feel yours so don’t feel too constrained. I wouldn’t worry about the sample/sequel component too much, it doesn’t have to be overly significant and you can always go for something more simplistic anyway. It’s intention is not to box you in but just to create a starting point for your inspiration, and then you can write from there and develop it in your own way to make the song feel more you if that helps. :bird:

I literally just took a song I've never heard before, from an artist I never listened nor like.

I just liked the lyric :skull:

I went with a sad-sample… I would even say it’s the perfect.mp3 embodiment of my first love and relationship ever and some of the post-break up emotions, questions, and wonders. :monkey:

Not everybody coming with the emotional songs this week :jonnycat: get us in our feelings :monkey:

The biggest reason this challenge was hard for me was because I don't listen to music for the lyrics. If I wanted that I'd just read poetry. :weeps: So going through all my favorite songs did little to help because I don't think most of them are particularly great as pieces of poetry.

Also my sample is really stupid actually but I decided to play it straight anyway

that might be smart tbh, then you don’t have any associated meanings or rhythms that you have to move past and you can integrate them like they’re your own

This was definitely a massive challenge -

first of all choosing between sequel of sample and then finding a song to sequel or sample. That alone was bloody difficult. I chose to write a sequel, and it’s just demanding on some other level for some reason. Taking some else’s story and intention, relating it to yourself and expanding that beyond and into the future is just really hard. But really enjoyable and challenging in a good and fun way! Look forward to learning more about everyone’s entries! Super excited about the next challenge as well! Any hints what it will be about @fountain

A hint? Hmmm.. well, right now it is actually a surprise to me as much as to you :lakitu:

but @Jackson @JoeAg and @Legend E might have ideas as to what it will be comprised of :eddie:

I was looking at pictures of Jensen Ackels and one had a quote I kinda liked and I was looking if it was from a song :rip:

Originally I was going to use "Take My Breath Away"

I've been sick for most of this week, I'm better now and I tried to write but couldn't scrap much, I guess it's not meant to be :monkey:

I'm glad you're feeling better now :chick3: if inspiration strikes and you need a little extra time, definitely go for it, but no pressure if you're not feeling it this week

:cries: well at least you tried, and I’m glad you’re better now! There’s still time and you can always go past the deadline a bit if you still want to try and submit this round, but it’s understandable if not :heart2:
