More Than A Melody Posted June 10, 2023 Posted June 10, 2023 (edited) Selling 83,500 tickets in 17 minutes, Harry became the artist who sold out the legendary SLANE CASTLE the fastest, according to the venue's official account: Slane is one of music's most iconic venues. Concerts have been held at the venue since the 1980s and they're handpicked by the owner of the Slane Castle, the Marquess of Conyngham, Henry Mountcharles. Previous performers include Queen, The Rolling Stones, David Bowie, Foo Fighters, and U2. There's usually just one show per year (with gaps in the middle when the owners "couldn't find worthy performers"). This is what Henry had to say: Quote "It was my choice to book Harry. I think he is phenomenal and he is still so young. As soon as I heard he was touring, I rang Denis Desmond, the owner of MCD and told him to get Harry. I knew from the outset there would be people criticising the decision but I couldn't give a damn. Harry is the first real crossover star since Bowie. I think he is a phenomenal artist and a great entertainer. The reaction so far to his tour has been wonderful. Everyone who has seen him says he puts on a great show. I have been around a long time and seen it all so to speak in the world of rock and roll but trust me when I tell you, Harry Styles is going to be one of the biggest stars of all time." Bruce Springsteen and Harry are the only artists to perform in Slane in the frame of their own concert tours, the rest did it in the context of "Slane Festival." Harry's is the first concert held in Slane since 2019. This is typically what it looks like Harry is performing right now, signal is quite bad, so not a lot of videos yet, but this was an aerial shot before the first opening act started (at around 4PM) Update: Aerial view of the show tonight Edited June 10, 2023 by More Than A Melody
Nazareth Posted June 10, 2023 Posted June 10, 2023 Absolutely insane… just wait till you all see the final gross for this tour

I don't really understand why they do that. I guess to group them in an easier way? Apparently he was asked by the owner when he started booking venues, so he switched. Two dates in Croke Park would've probably had a bigger attendance but this is way more slay.

Madonna did Slane in her own Re Invention Tour in 2004 not as Slane Festival... 1
holyground13 Posted June 10, 2023 Posted June 10, 2023 Madonna also performed there as part of the Re Invention Tour in 2004. Congrats to him, it's been a pretty big event in Ireland. I wonder if he would have been able to perform in Croke Park if they were allowing more concerts this year (apparently next year they'll be more).

I didn't know they weren't allowing more concerts in Croke Park. He would've sold out two shows in Croke Park easily, but either way, I rather have this as a career highlight. He'll probably continue doing stadiums from now on so plenty of times to add Croke Park, but since Slane it's invitation only... 1

I mean, Madonna is THE female popstar of basically all generations, so I'm not surprised. I would actually expect it mor from someone like Madonna than Springsteen 1

Yeah I think that's the case, it's something to do with GAA (an Irish sport) that I don't understand haha. And then the smaller stadium, Aviva, isn't doing concerts either as far as I know (Harry played there last year). It's intruging that neither Beyoncé, P!nk or Coldplay booked concerts here and then Harry did Slane instead, it's probably since the stadiums aren't able to host concerts. It also could be for other logistical reasons too. Edited June 10, 2023 by holyground13 typo

I was under the assumption that since Lord Henry said he asked Harry to do Slane he just ditched the stadiums, but I wonder if maybe that was a stroke of luck. Certain artists simply can't do arenas in certain countries, it's a security hazard, so I hope they solve this issue soon.

Sadly not :( though I was blessed to travel to see her and I enjoyed the trip so I'm lucky. It would have been wonderful to see her here though. I hope she'll come back one day. And yeah I think it's because Croke Park wasn't available - he would have easily sold out at least two Croke Park dates and that would have been more profitable most likely. He still did great though with Slane and I'd say it was a nice change of scenery for him compared to a regular stadium.

He's doing a couple of dates like this one, he's doing Werchter in Belgium, which are festival grounds, a similar place in Barcelona, and closing in Italy in a similar place as well, I think he likes the change of scenery. But there's no doubt that doing two stadium dates would be more profitable. Did you go to London? Everything in Europe is so close together. If I lived there, I'd travel constantly to watch my favorite artists. Tourism + a concert, what more can you ask for?
