Does anyone actually think this will serve longevity??? I sincerely doubt that. It’s literally called cruel summer. I expect its rotations to plummet at the end of august. By virtue of its lyrics it has a finite life on radio. Do you think it makes sense to be spinning cruel summer in October? :deadbanana2:

Radio quickly pulled Demi’s CFTS in September, even though it reached its peaked that month. I would expect a similar radio trajectory for CS

I mean, it's your fault if you expected anything else than a Tour video... :toofunny3:

She always does this. Fearless, Sparks Fly, and New Romantics had tour videos. :rip:

Why are people complaining? A tour video is actually perfect for this song, since the tour performances are what made this song go viral to begin with!

So I think CS will peak at #5

So many songs moving much more quickly and doing better than this

You have to be kidding :deadbanana2:

Of course there are songs debuting above Cruel Summer, but the vast majority of them won't stay above it for long. There is a lot of room for radio to grow on HAC now that Karma has peaked there too, and I don't think pop radio is going to dump it in a few weeks after it's had such an unprecedentedly strong run to the top. Streaming is holding really consistently, and while that will probably fade slowly after the tour wraps up, I have a feeling that it's going to peak pretty high and stick around for a while.

It's gaining quickly because of Summer

I hope I am wrong but I think it will go recurrent on pop radio by September

ig but imo its just redundant like :deadbanana2:sure the tiktoks of it live made it blow up, but like, how much more damage is the exact same thing but in HD gonna do? she'd be better off doing smth w a narrative and a bunch of easter eggs like usual

Demi is 1/20th the pop radio artist that Taylor is, please be for real :deadbanana2:

Cruel Summer is having one of the strongest runs into the top 10 of a song in many years (especially for a non-lead), there's no way it's immediately going to go from +500 daily updates to -500 daily updates just because August turned into September

If she DARES go to full-on New Romantics with this video, she can KEEP it.

No, it's not :deadbanana2:

Cruel Summer has been experiencing an unprecedented run up to #1, and that has literally nothing to do with the time of year. It went mega-viral on TikTok, then it was the first song on the tour, then the Spotify streams started climbing and climbing and then radios started playing it without any sanction or direction from Republic. Pop radio PDs made CS a single, not Taylor or her team or her label, and they all seem to really love the song (see the updates). Unless the public starts to immediately hate it, which I also don't foresee, they won't drop it overnight

I feel like a tour video might be a holdover until she can get onto a soundstage to shoot an actual music video :deadbanana4:

I’m just saying I don’t think radio is going to go as hard for the song when it’s not even summer

And OF COURSE the fanbase is finding a way to be negative again, what a surprise :rip:

She could've made a video like Carly's RAWM with the POV of the guy. I bet it'll be easier and faster to film. :gaycat6: But I'll take what she'll give us (if there's any).

Top 3 on Spotify Ireland. Would've been top 5 on this week's singles chart if it wasn't on ACR.

They were literally whining about wanting a TOUR video all month and now that there is one it's a problem? That's why I don't take the compliants seriously

EXACTLY. We've been talking about a tour video for a while and now suddenly it's bad?? Make it make sense :rip:

A tour video will probably bring in more views than some original "directed by Taylor" video.  Director Taylor isn't exactly going to do a hookup video, it would be of been some art style video like "Style" or a video that has nothing to do with the lyrics. The only way it would get the video it deserves if it she casts somebody else in it.

The way some of yall get offended when fellow swifties serve hesitancy or skepticism :deadbanana2: y’all are the worst for downvoting. Save the clicks for OTHs. Maybe some of us really are success stans- only here for it if CS hits number one on the week of Dec 25 :biblio:

@FolkLover1989 let’s make a sane swifties thread in base where we can discuss the arts not charts

It's not about being "offended", it's about being sick and tired of the constant negativity over every little thing, often for no real reason. I mean the fact that people are suddenly afraid that radios will massively drop CS the very moment we hit September 1 :rip:

Girl :skull: It may not be the biggest factor, but this is absolutely taking off during the summer in part because ya know... it's a summer song

Of course the tour was perhaps the biggest factor but this is a seasonal track that's seeing the benefit of it right now as well
