Just more proof that Lover stans have NO taste. 1
cruelhprince Posted August 23, 2023 Posted August 23, 2023 okay so no #1 push. some of her other signature songs also haven't peaked at #1 (YBWM #2, LS #4, IKYWT #2), still a huge hit. I'm happy with a #3 peak perched for Mexico's boost 1

swiftawaywithme Posted August 23, 2023 Posted August 23, 2023 I’ll always be mad her team didn’t push this because it was so doable, but so long Cruel Summer, you were always the true smash from L0ser. An amazing run for an ignored song.

Theluckyone Posted August 24, 2023 Posted August 24, 2023 I remember how ME! was predicted to debut with 600+ points whilst OTR was at 800+ and being such a strong #1. And taydesperate was pulling all stops to boost ME! up to a #1 debut and it ended with 700+ points only to still peak at #2. But now CS is at 230-240 points, whilst the predicted #1 is just close to 300. It’s so ripe for the taking with a MV push, new digital single with remix/acoustic version sold on the major platforms like iTunes Amazon, or selling physical singles like cardigan on the vinyl. Just anything, and CS will have a decent chance. But that being said, even if Taylor does absolutely nothing, and the song just peaks at #3- it will still go down as one of her biggest hits. Just like how IKYWT unfairly peaked at #2 as it didn’t have streaming, but yet remains one of her biggest and most recognizable hits. If she were to do the Super Bowl someday, I think CS has done enough to qualify to be part of the hits medley. 4
fridayteenage Posted August 24, 2023 Posted August 24, 2023 maybe she secretly doesn't like it that much. and doesn't want it to go #1 when her favored children, the first 2 lover singles, failed to do so
rivingtonrebel Posted August 24, 2023 Posted August 24, 2023 Does this still have a chance at becoming #1?

Mr. Duff Posted August 24, 2023 Posted August 24, 2023 I think the good thing is that it peaked at #3, it's super annoying to have it peak at #2 when it can go #1. At least this way it was blocked by two songs, which could stop me from being too bitter I am still bitter though about how it was blocked But it's time to move on I guess. I'll still be streaming you like all the time, Cruel Summer. You gave us a great but kinda cruel summer when we had our expectations not met lol
Born to Run Posted August 24, 2023 Posted August 24, 2023 I think they just want it to grow into an organic seasonal monster hit like AIWFCIY. There will be no explanation. There will just be reputation.
taylor__fan Posted August 24, 2023 Posted August 24, 2023 (edited) She should keep this for an entire year in TTH ala Harry Styles and sent it to European radios next summer while she is touring here. It would give the song amazing longevity WW and become a summer classic Edited August 24, 2023 by taylor__fan 1

Pop_Data Posted August 24, 2023 Posted August 24, 2023 5 hours ago, simmnfierzig said: Not really The problem is no other stand alone version of the song is available for purchase. All they need to do is release the instrumental version to iTunes and Amazon and 20K of sales would be enough for a week at number 1. Even a random Dance DJ remix would sell that much due to the Swifties knowing that the purpose of those releases is to have the song peak at number 1.
