The unrelenting ME! vinyl variants, web store exclusives, rehearsal audios, etc. all for the song to have NO chance at #1 and now here we are. An easy #1 within grasp and NOTHING :rip:

she really loves embarrassing us.

It’ll be really frustrating if this song doesn’t go #1. I’m so tired of her getting blocked

Cruel Summer not being able to reach the Top 3 of US iTunes is quite embarrassing and that's not her fault

A common misconception is that swifties mass buy for chart achievements. They don’t. That’s why it took so much effort to get willow to #1. People only bought the AH remixes because they thought it would help them with tickets for the tour. Karma probably would have reached #1 if fans were that invested but it didn’t even reach #1 on itunes, it was blocked by HD

Taylor Swift’s “Cruel Summer” pushes to a new No. 3 Hot 100 high, from No. 4, four years after its release on her 2019 album Lover, as it’s now being promoted as a single, while she has been performing the song on her The Eras Tour. It likewise climbs to new No. 3 bests on both Radio Songs (68.1 million, up 6%) and Digital Song Sales (7,000, up 85%), while rebounding 19-5, also a new highpoint, on Streaming Songs (18.2 million, up 14%), as it wins the Hot 100’s Sales and Streaming Gainer awards.

The difficult part of this is that mere coordination doesn’t imply impropriety. The song really is popular enough in general, through its extreme popularity with one group, to earn its chart placement. What would Billboard do? Cease counting sales entirely? As much as they’re usually dead these days, digital sales are still a valid method of music consumption that many people use. And further, we have to consider that the very purpose of music is often to serve as a vessel for a message. This song is right in line with what American music has been for decades. I think you and I are on the same page on that message being uninformed, misinformed, disagreeable, and ignorant, but then those people would say the same of a song like You Need to Calm Down.

The unfortunate truth of the matter is that conservatives have simply decided that they not only want to put their money where their mouth is and support creators who voice their same concerns (however off the mark they are), and that they’re doing so at just the right time for the charts to reflect it, completely by accident. It’s a little bizarre, but it’s also probably a temporary phenomenon

Trust me, it's not. You're gonna see things differently once a few years have passed and the charts will be invaded by this every week.

I'm not sure I'm following. What do you think should "be done"? Putting aside this specific song, I think it's incredible that an unsigned artist can post a video that resonates with people so much that it can shoot to #1 on the Hot 100.

:rip:

If a song being astrotufed by conservatives purely because of its political message and not genuine love of music is "incredible" to you, i guess we'll have to agree  to disagree. As i just said, you'll probably see things differently once it happens every week for years to come.

Why do I feel like this song will linger on into October and continue to get boosts with 1989 release :dies:  Speak Now was over a month ago and CS is only much bigger and stronger than a month ago. Two months is not long 1989 will be here fast

I have been praying this entire day for this to happen. It's been long, I don't believe anymore.
