In the US they have a pre-trial type jury called grand jury where prosecutors bring up hundreds of cases + evidence over 6+ months to see if it is enough to bring it to trial. If the grand jury agrees, then it brings forward indictments. He's under investigation for like 4 different crimes - hush money fraud (already indicted and going to trial possibly March 2024), actions leading up to January 6, Georgia election interference, and mishandling classified documents (which is the one that's supposed to be bringing an indictment this week or next).
