5 established rap girls. Each in very different positions in their career. Who’s next release has the most riding on it & who has the most to prove?

NICKI MINAJ

images?q=tbn:ANd9GcTHoryYUOpb-jDGJK2guiq

Arguably the most established. People are eager to see if she can deliver a cohesive album, ideally, one that nabs a Grammy. Nicki’s albums have often had to walk the line of catering to both her pop & rap audiences. Will she strike a balance or shake the singing once and for all? Will this be her final project for a long while & will her pen live up to the pressure?

ICE SPICE

images?q=tbn:ANd9GcQ30mI1yPc4vJaM2RkLrhW

Will the music live up to the hype and momentum behind her, when her first album drops? Or will she be relegated to meme status, the Fetty Wap of her era?

CARDI B

images?q=tbn:ANd9GcQmpv5vt2_6wp-dViul4wV

Will no doubt face comparisons to the massive performance of her first album & she’s faced with the looming “sophomore slump”. Will it be met with the same universal success, or has her extended break depleted her power?

MEGAN THEE STALLION

images?q=tbn:ANd9GcTNbHn5LLFfaC1hPeyJPcM

Has announced a break from music amidst her label issues. What will her music deliver once she is free, with the backing of Mr Z & Bey? With a laundry list of topics, both personal and professional people are interested to hear her address, will she ultimately come through and is this a make or break moment for Meg?

DOJA CAT

images?q=tbn:ANd9GcRXDPkRTZA-71-T6DAsrKX

She’s bald. She’s over pop. She’s demonic. She’s woke. Will it click with the geepee?

Cardi.
Her fans have told me she is the new queen of rap, so there will be heaps of pressure for her to deliver

It's been over 5 years since Cardi's last album. She has a lot to live up to!

Nicki and Doja are established now.

Cardi - her fans needa realize one album with good stats doesn’t last forever.

Megan - outside Tina Snow, a lot of her outputs been mid, she kinda morphed into a celeb more than a rapper which why no one really comes for her music.

Ice Spice - unlike the others mentioned above, she still new and getting her name out there. The demand isn’t that high til she becomes a bigger name and puts out nothing lol.

Nicki got a #1 hit last year. She basically doesn't have anything left to prove.

Cardi however...her next release will determine everything

honestly…

Doja has the utmost on the line out of all of these girls because if the album isn’t good… I fear it’s over for her. But if it IS acclaimed and successful, this will be her ticket to icon status. She’s already the most multi-faceted artist to hit the mainstream since Tin- Beyoncé and easily the most well rounded out of this list. However, I think she’s coming for her ARTPOP so idk. She could be considered established in some ways but her fanbase is very GP dependant + she still hasn’t toured. Not to mention she already seems over the fame so it’s quite literally a toss up.

Cardi’s celebrity status is bigger than her music, same with Megan, so they can survive in other ventures or become full time influencers like Saweetie. It doesn’t really matter

Ice Spice is serving quick flash in the pan if her talent doesn’t improve, but she has the Barbz (as of now) and it seems her team knows what they’re doing so I don’t think a bad debut album will end her career.

Nicki is an icon, there’s nothing left to prove.

The only one who doesn't have anything to prove is Nicki.

Ice needs to prove she can turn her celebrity/meme status into actual sales and streams.

Cardi needs to deliver with her 2nd album so she doesn't end up pulling a sophomore slump.

Megan is very similar to Ice. Her biggest hits are collabs and her celebrity status overshadows/clouds how successful she actually is, so her next album would be a great way to see if she can generate hits and streams on her own power.

Doja's in a weird position. If she stopped caring about people taking her seriously as a rapper/being labeled a pop artist, then I'd think she was a in a great position. But she cares so :michael:I guess she needs to prove she can make a full rap album while still making it as successful as her pop rap albums.

Overall, I think Ice BY FAR has the most to prove.

Nicki, because she is likely to pull a #3-OUT (assuming The Album ever gets released bc it’s going to be delayed several times)

They all have something to prove. Nicki has to prove she can get another hit era and not just random hits due to remixes and samples. The other girls have even more to prove - lasting power.

It's definitely Nicki. She's 5 albums in, countless feuds in, and has yet to make an album that could be considered a no-filler CLASSIC (something girls like Azealia Banks accomplished on their first official try). She needs to step the quality up after this string of very generic singles ("Anaconda" cousin "SFG" included). Release the doc at the same time as the album ... but will it now have to talk about Covid-19, as well as her husband and brother's crimes? :dancehall: Damned if she does, damned if she doesn't. That delay from 2018 may have tanked the rehabilitation the doc was supposed to accomplish.

Cardi - Cardi has set it up to have the biggest album of her career. Between "Up", "WAP", "Money", "Press", "Please Me", and "Hot ****".... that's already 3/4B+ streams. :rip: aka a Multi-Platinum album with no effort. (I'm looking at you, Selena Gomez' "Rare")

Get a NEW #1 single, put the last three songs above on a 7-track deluxe edition that comes out Week 1, and split up the remaining three songs on an album filled with BANGERS? That second album is never leaving the charts. Sophomore slump? We don't know her.

Megan Thee Stallion - very excited for her post-1501 projects, as it is clear from various sessions posted on social media that she has been saving the top-shelf liquor (Her favorite Neptunes, LilJuMadeDaBeat, etc beats) for her first album away from Carl Crawford. With the shooting legal vindication, B & Hov backing, and proof Nicki & Drake (AND Tory/DaBaby) showed their hands / "clouty" partnership too early, she has some nice lyrical fuel (and some big rolodexes she can ask for favors with) for the project. Excited.

Saweetie - I still think she can make a solid album. She just needs a good album concept. Scrap all the generic Luke tracks, make sure she can shop them to an Iggy/Latto/Coi and keep some writing or a verse or two, and work with Mr. Bangladesh (Diva, A Milli, old Ludacris records). That's the producer for her.

Lizzo - Still waiting on that "Special" Deluxe Edition with the released Cardi collab, as well as the "Special SZA Remix" and perhaps another 3 new tracks. Also rooting for a "Grrls" Extended Remix with Tinashe, who just signed to Lizzo / Ricky Reed imprint "Nice Life".

Doja Cat - She has nothing to prove. Those last two albums solidified her place as one of the most visually-creative, hit-making pop girls of this generation, and now she's trying to invite the Urban fans to the party. If it doesn't work (and she doesn't burn any bridges), her pop throne will still be waiting for her. In the meantime, the right producers and collabs are everything. Can she pull a Drake, Beyoncé, Travis Scott, or Rihanna collab to get that surefire Urban Radio hit out the gate? Or will she succeed on her own? Time will tell. Hope she works with Missy Elliott.

Azealia Banks - She has all the tools (talent, creativity). I hope she can get it together. Can't speak for Business & Pleasure, but Fantasea II: The Second Wave is already shaping up to be head and shoulders above her peers, Dr. Luke involvement or not.

Latto / Coi / Ice Spice? Wish them the best. All 3 already have the attention of the Grammys for their next projects. Hopefully they can rise to the occasion.

Ice Spice is not taken seriously enough to be in the need to prove something if u know what i mean. i think no one even expect a killer album by her. After her debut album i think she'll have something to prove, but she's still not even seen as a seriously rapper, it's more like a gen-z darling personality. Her first album will or not "build something" to be proven after. She's a personality. Her hype is not truly about music yet.

nicki has nothing to prove. MTS and Doja have to prove if they r here to stay but way less than Cardi B, the correct answer.

Doja cuz she's already lasted 2 albums and MTS cuz she didn't have a high peak to need to endure expectations like Cardi had.

Cardi did AMAZING with her first album, such a successful era, but everything else after "Up" has been... weird.

She should've released an album with WAP and UP cuz right now it's not looking good for her at all :gaycat7:

girl needs to come with bangers, she truly have a lot to prove with her sophomore. :gaycat7:

Cardi.

Meg just needs freedom and time because ALL of her latest projects were :flame:

Not even sure why Onika is in the poll. I'm no barb but you'd be delusional to think she has anything to prove in terms of commercialism and/or rap skills after she's already spent so many successful and influential years in the business. Half of these new rap girls were in middle school when she broke through. She's a veteran on her way to legend status at this point.

Cardi & Ice Spice imo. Doja is kind of established already and Nicki barely has anything left to prove other than serving all around acclaimed project.

Cardi is the only answer. I wish her all the luck but I'm worried :dancehall:

Nicki and Doja have nothing to prove, they can only add to their legacy

the rest of the girls don't really have "that" album(s) in their catalogue imo

I feel like Doja's next album could be her most critically acclaimed

Saying Doja is established :skull: She blew up with Hot Pink and then capitalized it by releasing an nearly identical album with Planet Her. As far as I’m concerned, she’s had one “era” of relevance, like Gaga following TF with TFM. If the next album doesn’t click with the GP, she’s over.

Cardi has a lot to prove, but she’s going to remain famous even if the album flops.

Ice Spice doesn’t really have anything to prove but she’s also not that famous. Right now she’s nothing more than a trend and only time will tell if she’s taken seriously.

Nicki has nothing to prove to an extent. None of Nicki’s albums hold a candle to that of Missy’s or Kim’s level of cohesion and artistry, but she’s got a enough material that speaks for itself.

So probably Doja. She could easily fade into oblivion if her material doesn’t connect.

Well, let’s define this a bit more.  They ALL have something to prove, as I stated earlier.

But I see some people saying Doja could disappear or become forgotten.  IMO, popularity is NOT the thing she has to prove.  She is established from the sense of “being popular.”

IMO…what Doja has to prove is that she’s capable of making art with more depth (subject matter), and test her musical versatility.  We get glimpses of it, but not a full showing.

So there’s levels to this…

Latto, Ice Spice - proving popularity/star power/consistency

Megan, Doja - artistic depth/versatility.  Although one shows more promise in this area , just being honest.  Love both.

Megan also has to prove herself stats-wise too. Especially if she gets off 1501…we can’t have the excuses about why her numbers are lower than her peers anymore atp.  The trial is over too, there’s nothing stopping her from reaching her full potential (except for herself).

Cardi, Nicki - both unfortunately have to defend self-proclaimed titles and accolades that they have bragged about.  Which is unfortunate b/c they brought it on themselves.  :skull:

It’s really just Latto and Ice in the boat of artists needing to prove relevancy and popularity, IMO.
