In my experience, they are much kinder and more accepting of foreigners than any American I have come across. Many of them also have a very favorable view of the US, yet if you ask people in the US about China, it is almost always negative. Makes you wonder which side is actually brainwashed. So many people in the US have been brainwashed into thinking China is some kind of oppressive regime and no one is allowed to say or do anything without expressed consent from the government, and it is just not like that. Not at all. People can do whatever they want, whenever they want. It is truly insane how many people think they know China but have never set foot in the country. So kind and accepting they are putting 1m Muslims in concentration camps in the 21st century! Truly very free, must be nice to be so privileged! OT: As others have said China is doing a great job at deploying these technologies- but they are all Western technologies. Unlike the other "revolutions" there is little being invented there, so it's hard to qualify it as an international revolution.

Using face ID on your own device is different to being able to just scan your face to pay for something without a device. There's also cases in Shenzhen where they use faceid to immediately fine people for things like jay-walking. I'm not anti-China, I agree it's a beautiful country and people should visit but like any other country it has good and bad points and should be portrayed with nuance. 1 minute ago, magazine said: With the amount of pollution they do, they should be As other users pointed out the CO2 emissions per capita isn't particularly high and many of those emissions come from making products which western countries then buy.

The CCP was not doing that while I was there so I do not know what to tell you. Also, the Chinese people are not doing that, their government is. I do not know how to explain that the Chinese people are not their gov't so hopefully you understand that. At the same time, all countries have people who turn a blind eye to the evils their country is doing. I cannot pass judgement on that as an American. 1 hour ago, Robert said: Using face ID on your own device is different to being able to just scan your face to pay for something without a device. I get what you are saying, but biometric data is being used everywhere and not just China. I just do not find it to be such a big, scary issue. Edited June 9, 2023 by Sannie
Domination Posted June 9, 2023 Posted June 9, 2023 I am skeptical that we can definitively say that the next wave of advancement is to be defined as the “renewable age” but it does not surprise me that China would be leading in that area.

You do realize that it’s actually beneficial for everyone that China (and India) make huge advancements because that will only push the “West” to invest more money to avoid getting “beat” by them. It’s in this sort of competition/race where novel research flourishes, which is a good thing for everyone The issue is that the proclaimed trend - that America is somehow brain-draining China - has actually begun to reverse in the last few years, so 1) people perpetuating that it's still happening feels a bit dishonest and 2) especially when such an inaccurate framing is also done (by that user, not you) to essentialize China as a nation. Competition can be good, but it's hard to believe people like that other user are interested in healthy competition when essentalizing Chinese people and essentially saying China will always be "dumber" of a nation than the US. https://twitter.com/ReginaIplau/status/1667491032714428417

IBeMe Posted June 10, 2023 Posted June 10, 2023 China is doing wonders and their advancement in the past like 30 years has been aspirational for a lot of countries in the “global south”. that said I’m not sure renewables are the thing leading the 6th wave…wouldnt AI take precedent in that regard? I think AI advancements are what is leading the 6th wave and most top tier AI companies are American based (though China is doing great too in that regard).
IBeMe Posted June 10, 2023 Posted June 10, 2023 Also…here’s hoping rejuvenation and longevity science advances immensely in the coming decades thanks to AI…that would be the most amazing thing science could do for us humans in the near ish future.
