Canada Issues Travel Warning to US.

A travel advisory is asking Canadians to "familiarize yourself on how to respond to an active shooter situation" when visiting the United States, in light of the mass shooting trend looming over the country.

The Government of Canada’s travel information pagereminds travellers to be cautious and take security precautions when visiting down south, while pointing in particular to the common nature of gun violence in America.

“The rate of firearm possession in the United States is high,” notes the official travel advisory, last updated on May 19, 2023.

“Incidents of mass shootings occur, resulting most often in casualties. Although tourists are rarely involved, there is a risk of being in the wrong place at the wrong time."

There’s been an upward trend of mass shootings and gun-related deaths in recent years, with more than 200 mass shootings having occurred in the first five months of 2023 alone, according to the Gun Violence Archive, a nonprofit research group that has been tracking gun violence patterns.

That's why I would never go there until they ban guns and weapons. Imagine dying on a dirty 7/11 floor because somebody needed the money... nah ah

This is quite embarrassing for you. It is giving, “don’t go to Toronto. The whole city is a crime zone and you will be mugged and murdered” energy.

Toronto is much safer than a lot of US cities. How many mass shootings happened just this month in the US? Now how many happened in Canada this month?

You are way more likely to die in the US by gun than in Canada.

Not people in here defending that disgusting hell hole!

Tell that to the people literally just having a stroll outdoors who had to duck and cover and run for their life yesterday.

Not downplaying the problem, but the US is still a very safe country to live in and travel through.  Saying it’s dangerous to be here is giving “Mexico is unsafe for Americans” levels of ignorance.

I’ve lived in the US my entire 37 years of life and never had an issue. Yes there’s problems but that doesn’t everywhere in the US is unsafe.

I'm glad they did :clap3:. The U.S.A has been issuing traveling warnings to Mexico for so many years, so I'm glad other countries are doing the same to the U.S.A

Hopefully other countries do the same, including Mexico. :gaycat1:

We've had 260+ mass shootings in 2023 alone, only 150 days into the year. Canada is right :clap3:

What you just mentioned is illegal in 43 out of 50 states aka an overwhelming majority of the country, but I agree on the principal that it should be illegal on a federal level.  Still a very safe country to visit and live in.

What about when you work a minimum wage job and get pneumonia, get fired bc you were sick and cannot pay your medical bills... and subsequently die for lack of care? You cannot be fired for being sick in any other 1st world nation.

OK, I simmer down now.

What gets on my nerves now is that the Republican Party first and foremost, to a lesser degree the Dems too, have this very distorted view of America as being the ONLY country that has freedoms and laws protecting citizens and "real" democracy yadda yadda yadda.

Each and every country has a lot of flaws... but the flaws that the US have - like the lack of gun control - is something that a lot of citizens ignore. It's frustrating.

Also, Florida. That state is really in the gutter. Burning / banning books is such a red flag in my country these days (Germany) bc we did that too once and it is such a stain on our history and we feel ashamed beyond compare about it. However, in Flordia banning books is celebrated as something good. The only book you cannot legally buy (at least not 10 years ago) in GER was Hitler's Mein Kampf - for obvious reasons. (1. it was a badly written book, 2. it was incredibly racist and anti-semitic and quite frankly stupid beyond compare). Ronnie DeSantis and his anti common sense policies are so far removed from decency that it hurts to see that play out before our eyes.

This is hilarious coming from Canada with all its problems. That being said, what these countries fail to comprehend is just how huge the United States is. Some states are bigger than entire countries.

Are they simply trying to prevent the current mass exodus of Canadians to the US?

Nearly 45,000 Canadian move to the US each year.

While only 9,000 Americans make the move to Canada yearly.

The US population is 9X that of Canada.

That means Canadians are 50 times more likely to move to the US than the other way around.

It seems there's quite a bit more allure to the land of the Star-Spangled Banner, doesn't it?

If you're gonna speak so forcefully on US Law, please educate yourself on the subject first.

There is such a thing as The Emergency Medical Treatment and Active Labor Act which makes it illegal for medical professional to deny service to a dying patient.

Also, being gay is easier in the US than it is in Europe.

FL is the worst state to be gay in the US and they have more rights than in Poland, Hungary....

Gay marriage is legal everywhere here, the same can't be said about Europe.

Even Germany only just recently got with the program...
