If U Seek Amy Posted May 25, 2023 Posted May 25, 2023 A large part of Trump’s victory in 2016 besides Hilary being an unlikable candidate (+ voter apathy a bit too as everyone expected her to win easily mostly) was his ability to win over moderates. He sold himself well on yes he’s republican, but he also is not your typical politician and many were hungry to see someone in the White House not your standard politician. Soooo many midwesterners in the swing states loved that at the time even if they normally voted democrat. The second trump got into office and began his far right behavior + his handling of Covid and he was over. Ron Desantis is running on exactly what made trump lose, and almost even more intensely too. Idk how he expects to win the country. Hasn’t he seen what strict abortion laws does to candidates in the midterms and special elections? Hasn’t he seen what being far right does like most places outside of florida that are important to win? He already has lost most moderates/middle leaning republicans, has no democratic or other similar support, and most of the far right would rather have trump. the only true republican right now in America that has a chance is a more moderate balanced candidate. That is how Biden narrowly wins. He takes the left, independents who fear extremism of the right, and some moderate republicans who hate far right people more than democrats. His choice of identity may be good for florida, but what an odd choice nationally. Biden may be unpopular but unpopular vs unpopular won’t really matter. Plus inflation and prices for most things are coming down fast and by 2024 probably yikes for the Republican unless something new major happens. I just don’t see a way for Desantis to the White House as things are unless he does a major change up fast, and even then he will just look even more shady if he flips on a dime like that
