A grown ass man was upset when Celie and Suge kissed... he was like "Fantasia is doing that?????" Out loud and ****. His family was shushing him. And then we had some characters who made some comments throughout. Lowkey love when they get interactive but not TOO interactive. 2
Reverse Warholian Posted December 28, 2023 Posted December 28, 2023 Secured my tickets for Friday! I know it's not exactly like the '80s film but just the THOUGHT of reliving this moment makes me wanna bawl my eyes out

Life Savers Posted December 29, 2023 Posted December 29, 2023 This was great. Fantasia is truly a generational talent. Danielle was fantastic too. Taraji was good but, controversial take maybe, she felt miscast.
fridayteenage Posted December 29, 2023 Posted December 29, 2023 i think they definitely wanted an Oscar Nominee in the cast especially with the $100 mil price tag. wicked has erivo, les miz had hathaway/crowe, mamma mia/into the woods/the prom had meryl, chicago had renee, dreamgirls had jamie, phantom had miranda, sweeney had johnny/helena...
Mellark Posted December 31, 2023 Posted December 31, 2023 I went to see this yesterday and it was moving. The visuals and cinematography were amazing. I feel the cast was perfect, and I am glad Fantasia is getting her flowers. The audience wasn't that bad though in my showing. Spoiler The Whoopi cameo threw me off
X~MoviePoP Posted January 7 Posted January 7 So this came and went. Its not doing the best at the box office. Unfortunately i can see it getting 0 noms come oscar nomination morning
Lightbringer007 Posted January 7 Posted January 7 this was absolutely stellar! went to see it with my mom and it was so impactful, made us both tear up
TaylorNation Posted January 9 Posted January 9 saw it tonight and really enjoyed it! Fantasia and the cast is absolutely INSANE but this movie had the same problem as In The Heighs for me, and that is that it looked and felt so cheap
Inverted Posted January 16 Posted January 16 Still haven't seen it. I just rewatched the original and will see this version next weekend.
kishi Posted January 17 Posted January 17 Isn't the international theater release this weekend? Why is it available to streaming so soon?

BNF91 Posted January 18 Posted January 18 Really perplexed at the box office performance of this film.. it just fell off a cliff after opening day even with such high audience scores. Regardless I did go to see this with my mom, and we enjoyed it. But it really doesn't hold a candle to the original film and I think the musical aspect is what gets in the way of that most of the time. You end up missing a lot of that character work that is so essential.
rac7d Posted January 18 Posted January 18 This is bad bad box office flop little to no award nominations and no win chances the entire promotion campaign went to talking about on set controversy or pay disparity worse of all this film doesn’t help taraji argument for pay at all and is gonna hurt her working in the future 1
Lovett Posted February 1 Author Posted February 1 Fantasia had me bawling at the reunion scene. The cinematography of this film was gorgeous. Such a shame it's not getting much love. 1
Life Savers Posted February 1 Posted February 1 Yeah, it tanked bad unfortunately. The gross is actually even worse since the studio itself bought out many of those theaters. Good thing they had Wonka to cushion the blow (Barbie was cushion for all the failed DC releases, although Aquaman will probably break even). 1
sciencemagic Posted February 17 Posted February 17 Saw this today, and it was good! I think that the tonal changes from scene to scene were a little jarring, and honestly, I'm here didn't seem that tramp fit just given the setting and everything. Great vocals, but it just seemed a little bit anticlimactic? Also, lol at HER showing up for only two lines of singing
DammnBaby Posted February 17 Posted February 17 The bag was fumbled because Taraji wouldn't stop making it about herself, and that's all the media could talk about after it opened. There's a time and a place to discuss these issues, sis. The eve of release of your potential smash hit film is not it. 1 3
SoldierofLove Posted February 19 Posted February 19 The movie got added to streaming a few days ago. I finally got to watch it. I thoroughly enjoyed it! It's a shame it didn't do well. I realize that's coming from someone who didn't pay to watch it at the theatre lol but still. Too bad it was a major flop.
fridayteenage Posted February 22 Posted February 22 per screentimecentral, screentime for original vs. musical: Whoopi 40% vs. Fantasia 45% Margaret 22% vs. Taraji 26% Oprah 15% vs. Danielle 17% Danny 31% vs. Colman 25% Desreta 15% vs. Phylicia 13% Akosua 15% vs. Halle 10% Willard 12% vs. Corey 15%
PopMusicJunkie Posted March 8 Posted March 8 I just watched, and I liked, but there were some moments that didn’t quite hit like in the original. For example, when Celie was about to kill Mister with that straight razor is done so well in the original.
