This not getting a Dolby Cinema release doesn't feel right.

So the dolby theater near me are splitting between this, Migration and Aquaman at one theater, and then this and Migration at another. Pretty random.

This was so moving :jonny5: The performances, Cinematography, choreography, and musical numbers were wonderful. Fantasia was incredible,  especially around the second part of the movie. So many heartbreaking and powerful scenes she had,  I'd love to see her make it to the Oscars. Danielle Brooks was fantastic as Sophia and definitely see why she is a serious threat to the Oscar. Very powerful in both the striking and downtrodden scenes.  I also want to see Taraji get her second Oscar nomination,  her Shug was wonderful and her musical numbers and character arc were one of my favorite parts of the movie. And Colman Domingo was so commanding as the evil Albert, he would deserve an Oscar nom in Supporting Actor as well. I want to see SAG support the movie more than we think at the moment.

Many parts of the movie,  especially that final scene, were so beautifully directed and leave a lasting impression by the end of the film.

America isn't the frontrunner,  Da'Vine Joy Randolph for The Holdovers is.  Both deserve to win.

Currently headed for the 3rd biggest Christmas Day debut of all-time

I see why Brooks would be nominated but the role doesn’t seem that different from the movie for which OW already got nominated.

To me, Taraji really is the real mvp. Dance, songs and act. Her role is def the one that benefits the most from this new treatment and she devours.

Great cast, great cinematography. I enjoyed revisiting this story even though it’s extremely heavy.

At this rate Taraji won't even be nominated so I'm not so sure about that

Kinda odd to see how this was supposed to be a big player this year but it looks like Danielle Brooks will be its only nomination

Critically acclaimed, loved by audiences, AND a box office success? Oh wow :clap3: Would love to see this get a Best Picture nomination.

I think sag and oscars will save this movie awards season

Movie was fantastic. I was very moved and the songs, despite me not liking musicals, really elevated the message. Wow. Fantasia deserves a Best Actress nomination & Danielle too. I honestly think they could win.

With the two songs that made the Oscars shortlist, I think Keep It Movin' has a MUCH better shot than Superpower (I). That song was honestly perfectly placed and added a layer to Celie's entire story that elevated her to the big moment.

Only gripe I had was the ending seemed a bit less full than what I was expecting. I was expecting some more emotion but it seemed sort of rushed assuming you had seen the original.

But wow. Fantasia has come a LONG way from that Lifetime movie she did.

Actually Taraji could benefit from her recent speech about the struggles of being an actress and the salary issue.

Fellow Actresses could relate to her discourse and might feel it’s important that it gets push forward in the public eye.

She’s already had one so it’s not like she’s not part of that club or already esteemed by her peers for her work.

I remember when HTGAWM and Empire came out; they were both an event and it made Viola an A-lister. Then Taraji followed it up a year later with Hidden Figures, another big hit and then... nothing. I thought it was odd how Viola managed to become one of the greats and Taraji just fell by the wayside because she is also talented. I hope this is some sort of comeback for her

I haven't had the chance to see this yet but I love seeing that it's becoming a box office hit with good word of mouth :clap3:

as far as awards season goes, with this great box office and all the conversation this has sparked i think it can rebound at SAG. neither of them will win but it would be so nice to see Fantasia (especially considering this is her debut!) and Taraji get Oscar nominations. :dies:

The movie had my theatre balling. I kept begging for a oscar showy moment for fantasia and i think overall she did show it but idk i feel like she got overshadowed by the cast.

i saw this last night and loved it. but man the audience was messy, it was like stacked to the rafters with Brenda-from-scary movie types with incessant yaasing during the movie. it was like rocky horror picture show with how many familiar cues there were for the audience, which was really fun. the whole theatre including me stuck our hand up in the Celie curse claw during that part!
