Gaga was the it girl of 2009-2011. On a worldwide scale, very few came close to her level. Taylor Swift seems to be in her position now.

 

Whose peak was bigger?

Taylor is definitely bigger right now than what Gaga was in 2009-2010

 

I know that combining TFM and TF would be bigger than any Taylor album individually 

 

But Taylor has all her albums currently charting and is probably going to have the biggest tour all time

gaga easily. taylor has managed to stay hugely successful over different eras, but gaga's peak with TFM/BTW was way bigger than taylor's eras. gaga's problem is just trying to maintain success over different eras.

She might have all numbers right now but Midnights is not even comparable to 1989. 1989 scored many hits while Midnights only got 1 (Anti-Hero) and it doesn't even feel that big and known especially globally. 

 

Peak is not just about numbers/sales, it's a mix of everything... numbers, hits, cultural impact, 'iconicness', media coverage, even controveries etc.

All of that afforded her a very unique window of opportunity to reach and traverse multiple generations at an almost unprecedented scale in a short amount of time.

 

She was ubiquitous. Massive albums, massive singles, massive tours. Music video premieres that were cultural events. Iconic red carpet appearances that instantly found their way to full-page coverage. And this wasn't just happening disproporionately in pockets around the world, this was happening everywhere, daily and uniformly. Nowadays, we can curate our social experiences on our TikTok and Instagram feeds based on what we like or not but back then that wasn't possible as much, which made her even more inescapable and fueled her rise even further. To this day, that kind of cultural saturation that she attained as a result of simultaneous penetration (depth) and permeation (breadth) worldwide has not been matched by anyone after her, tbh. It's why so many publications refer to her as "Pop's last great superstar" or a variation of that.

 

She could easily retire today and she will still remain a household name forever with what she accomplished early on in her career.

we know taylor is more consistent and is slaying now, but gaga's peak was phenomonel across all boards in 2009-2012. She has the bigger peak, Taylor the bigger consistently. she has not reached what Gaga had just cause of those albums charting in the streaming era. But, its not to disrespect Taylor she is huge.
