discussion Is it actually weird to date someone who looks like you?

I frequently see this discussion come up time and again in gay spaces when people refer to a gay couple as "boyfriend twins". I don't really see what the issue is though? They're not actually related and a lot of people find people with similar features to them attractive. I feel like straight people do this a lot too, but it's just more obvious when both partners are the same gender.

 

So what do you think ATRL? Do you think it's strange to date people who look similar to you?

I think it seems weirder for gay couples to look alike because the resemblance is more strikingly obvious when it’s between two of the same genders (down to the same kind of beard or hairstyle, let alone the physical features) but there’s tons of straight couples that look like siblings too. It’s just not as obvious. I don’t see anything particularly wrong with it though

Psych studies prove this is common. You’re statistically more likely to marry someone whose name starts with the same letter as yours vs other letters. My bf doesn’t look like me but I don’t judge people for resembling their partners

That has nothing to do with looks.

It does give narcissism, which is unfortunately very common among white gays, in my experience. It's not like dating is that hard for white gays, they can afford to have more options than your average gay man, so yes ''gay twin couples'' always have me side eyeing them.

I understand why other races/ethnicities do it, since they are usually disavantaged when it comes to the dating life compared to white males. This is just my opinion, though, I am not gonna back this up with scientific papers and ****.  But hopefully you understand where I'm coming from.
