Jotham Posted May 18, 2023 Posted May 18, 2023 (edited) Update: The LA Dodgers have invited them again. Edited May 23, 2023 by Jotham news update
FreeXone Posted May 18, 2023 Posted May 18, 2023 I’m guessing the link to the Catholic Church. chile they better not invite any priest and nuns either since they attached to mass child molestation!

It’s gay men dressed up/mocking Catholic nuns. This group has no connection to the Catholic Church but people find it offensive. 1 3

Like I said it’s cause they are “mocking Catholics” so it is religiously offensive to them but I’m like who cares cause they are full of p3d0s

Mellark Posted May 18, 2023 Posted May 18, 2023 I was thinking of going to this, but hmm I don't know anymore. I think it would've been best to just keep them and invite them, but the damage is already done already. I think a lot of these companies don't realize that doing research helps completely. It is a stupid decision from the Dodgers and catering to a right-wing audience isn't setting a positive example for inclusion.
RunUpDoneUp Posted May 18, 2023 Posted May 18, 2023 Why would religious people being offended by drag be a problem? Drag isn't supposed to be kind or accommodating to the institutions that bind the participants. Pride isn't supposed to be inoffensive. 1

Sannie Posted May 19, 2023 Posted May 19, 2023 I cannot believe organizations are pandering to the anti-LGBT bigots in 2023. From what I have read, they disinvited this group because people on the right are upset that a bunch of queer people are making fun of an institution that for years has been attacking them. Weird.

Meanwhile, had these been performers been in burkas mocking Islam, people on the left would be agreeing about disinviting them. The Dodgers rely on straight people, including religious people (the majority of the country) to keep attending their events. Not all Christians, or Catholics for that matter, are homophobic. This group can do their act elsewhere. As stated before this isn’t a drag bar. It’s a big enough deal the Dodgers are even willing to participate in Pride. 1 1

Of course they would be. Because the scenario you're describing would be offensive by nature of people who have never been impacted by Islam mocking it in a way that cannot be separated from racialized prejudices. Meanwhile the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence, as people who lived in a Christian nation impacted by Christianity, subvert culturally Christian symbols to make them pro-LGBT. What the sisters do is more akin to Muslim activists doing things like making Pride-themed hijab in support of LGBT rights: Reclaiming religious iconography to make it clear religiosity is not at odds with Queerness. Not mocking of a religion based on racialized hatred like you seem to wish was happening.
ATRL Moderator khalyan Posted May 23, 2023 ATRL Moderator Posted May 23, 2023 So happy the group has been invited again. I can't believe how awful their PR handled this situation though
Lost In Paradise Posted May 23, 2023 Posted May 23, 2023 this sort of BS (baseball team "Pride Nights") and the BS that ALWAYS surounds them (like this little controversy) are literally the opposite of progress. we're doomed and it's mainly our own fault.
